Test & Tune At Byron Dragway
Test & Tune At Byron Dragway
If the weather is decent I might be going to Byron for some T&T runs with the IROC. Anybody else going to be there? According to their website Byron Dragway they should be open both Saturday and Sunday. I have wanted to run there this year but never seemed to find the time......better late than never!
LOL
It would be cool to meet up with some of you 3rd gen enthusiasts there and check each others cars out......hint hint!

I wanted to go this weekend. I finished the motor swap last thursday night. Went to a 350 TPI, but then I wrecked the car on friday, and she is messed up pretty bad. Thank *** for stated value insurance. It won't be fixed till mid december so my season is done. Damn, did it seem alot quicker than the 305 tbi. Hope some other people make it out to see ya. Good luck.

how did byron go? I'm having too many issues with my camaro right now. I need to sell it. My floor is cracked and rotting right behing the drivers seat @ the rear passenger footwell. it's gonna have to go soon. the only problem is, I wanna keep my wheels @ the least. I get to drive it again this winter, and I'll see how much WORSE the winter will make my rust. WECoyote, if you ever get to the point where you want to sell your iroc, shoot me a line, it's just too beautiful.

My times at Byron were rather disappointing to say the least! They jumped all over the place.......from 15.3 to 15.8! My best time for the day was 15.2 something (don't have the slip in front of me as I type this) with a 2.20 60' That best run was right after I had disconnected the ECM to reset it. The wild variances in times is due to spark knock......disconnecting the ECM to reset the knock counts and retard confirmed it. FWIW....I was running the stock EPROM that day with 9 degrees BTDC base timing advance .......at least according to the digital advance timing light and the mark on the outer balancer ring. Some testing I have done in the last couple of days is showing that running at 4 to 5 deg BTDC base timing (according to my balancer) results in lower spark counts under hard acceleration and good performance......wish I could take it to a track to confirm it!
Bummer to hear about your car. I didn't think it was getting that rusty underneath. I guess that is what Wisconsin winters can do! If I was you I would treat as much of that rust as you can before the salt hits the roads.
Thanks for the comments on the car. It's not perfect.......there is a dent in the front passenger door that was supposed to be fixed this past spring....yadda yadda yadda. Someday when I am content with the level of performance mods (yeah right!) I would like to go over the body and repaint it.

hey that's alright... if you remember my car STILL won't interface too well w/ the MAF plugged in, so it's still unplugged I redid my white face gauges so they they lookd professional. maybe if I get a dremel for christmas I can port my throttle body.
can you belive the rust? you've seen my car, it doesn't look too bad (body wise) but obviously the first owner didn't get undercoating done when it was new.
the body of my car? it's mostly straight. I need a new drivers side door skin and to rid the rust. when spring rolls around, don't be surprised if I show up for MFBA stuff w/ a different camaro. it breaks my heart to see it going like this, bad stuff keeps happening.
things wrong in the last year:
nov. '00 - fuel pump dies
dec. '00 - new fuel pump killing car, need new exhaust
jan. 01 - exhaust fixed. tranny is acting up
feb. 01 - ok
mar. 01 - dispute between my father and I puts me in jail, and wrecks my fender, door, and left front tire
april - 01 found new fender, fuel pump still bad, door looks like duckbill
may - get pneumonia, car running fair, FP being a pita, insurance due
june - get layed off, MAF falls apart night b4 mfba cruise, car runs like crap the whole time, only v6 there.
july - FP still bad, door still bad, rust is bad, maf not working.
august - insurance due, need new brakes
sept. get new brakes b4 fall cruise. serp. belt shreds, leaving gash in radiator.
oct. i'm amazed, car runs like raped ape @ fall cruise, impressed alot of people because my car has usually less than half the power they do, and I can keep up, spent alot of time @ 115 (govenor)
nov. new radiator, FP being pita still, rust getting alarming, crack in floorboard, door still bad, today tranny starts slipping out of gear when manually shifted, check tranny fluid, full but looks like oil, insurance due, liscense gets renewed, registration up in dec, so it needs to be registered in dodge county (no emmisions)
so first thing is getting it in somewhere to get tranny fluid changed, since I can't. i think I need to invest in a tranny cooler, the 3200 stall tc obviously keeps it quite warm.
man, I love thirdgens, but they cost an arm a leg, and other odd parts to maintain. With things being how they are, I'm considering selling it in spring, it's my first car and it has a special place, but i'm itching for a 5 speed and t-tops. this time I'll make sure the underbody is sound. annd good paint is a must.
