question for OH residents

Ok, here's the deal.. A guy I work with got hit in Ohio by a drunk driver. The car is wrecked pretty bad, but is drivable and luckily no injuries. He only has basic coverage (in MI it's called PL/PD), no collision coverage.

The way this would work in MI, since it is a "no-fault" state, is he would submit a copy of the police report to the other guy's insurance, and they'll write him a check for $500. How does it work in Ohio? Is OH a no-fault state? If so, what's the claim limit?

TIA!

If I'm not mistaken, he is bound by Ohio's laws. He would have to get some bodyshop appraisals of his car and turn those over to the drunk's insurance company. I hope your friend is ok. Even a few days later, the trauma of the collision may just be coming to the surface. Did he go to a hospital afterwards?

His insurance company should be able to give him the details of all the legal shmegalese. Hell, that's what your paying them for...

drunk pays the whole bill even rental car but collecting might be hard but the courts will do it if he doesn't skip town all together time for a attorney you can even make him pay his bill if he's got the job. big ? would be if drunk is long time resident with job that you can sit on him with a attorny to pry it out of him.
