Here we go again!
I posted a couple months ago about wanting to know a little bit about Peoria, Illinois because I had a decent possibility of moving back there. Well I lost round #1 but now round #2 has opened and it's all happening over again (same company, different position). This one looks good.

I don't know about the market on a national level but I do know of an easy way to get great pay with a construction job where I live. Bechtel is on contract to build the Vitrification plant in Richland, WA and they still need around 300 engineers and can't find them. It's a 7 year construction project and will likely turn into an operations contract. Although 7 years is the plan, having lived here my entire life I know the job will last a long time. Nothing ever gets done around here. They are paying 90% of wage scale for engineering positions. Go to the web site http://www.waste2glass.com for an overview.

Sounds fun to me!
Just need a little time to finish off the car. Frankly, if I just ran open headers I could be cruising very soon. I could probably get away with that during a car show or event but not otherwise.

So when is your ETA in Peoria? After the new year? FYI......there will be MFBA events/meetings almost every month through out the winter months. Yeah.....I know most of us will have have our cars tucked away for the season but there are a lot of things the MFBA does. I know last year a bunch of people got together for some car shows/events at the McCormick Place.

My first day of work is the 3rd of December. I imagine I'll be pretty busy until after Christmas trying to find a place to live and moving my stuff in.
My car won't show up until spring when my folks come to visit. They'll bring it behind the motorhome for me. I'll try to get the rest of the parts I need to finish it in the mean time. When the car arrives, I'll buy a bunch of pizza for anyone who wants to help me put it all together.
Shouldn't take but one weekend if I can get someone real good with a welder to do the exhaust and subframes.

I'm sure we'll get together some time. well i just found out its a 327.which i had in mind of buying but thought and was told it was a 350.so we put a 350 balancer on and it keeps throwing belts.so its a 327 damnit.ohh well.still gets.thanks for the compliments.

How is the damper related to throwing belts? Both the 327 and 350 should use the same internally balanced damper. I'm not sure how you know it's a 327 from the damper.
i dont know what a damper is.but i had a 327 balancer on it..behind the lowest pulley on the engine..and it didnt do anything..and i have thrown 3 in the last 3 days.thats why i think that.

Yeah, my number is 685-0476 and I'm sure there are faster cars around, mainly in pekin, and like always, there will always be somebody faster than your car. But it's gonna be pretty quick for the street though. Mine should be together by March. Good luck with your job

Inside of the damper there is basically a huge rubber band. On each side of the rubber band there are two heavy rings. When a piston fires off it jerks the crankshaft. The inner ring is attached to the crankshaft and spins with the crank. The rubber band flexes because it has another ring connected to it. This helps dampen the shock of the piston firing and smooths out vibrations from your engine. In short, the damper (or balancer) is necessary for proper operation of your engine and has no bearing on your problem of throwing belts.
The most frequest cause of belt throwing is either misaligned pulleys or loose belts. Misaligned pulleys cause the belts to walk up and out of the belt groove. If your belts are too loose they will expand at high rpm and fly off the pulley. But be careful because if the belts are too tight you'll get excessive where on the bearings in your alternator, water pump, etc. and even risk breaking a shaft.
Use a yard stick to help you evaluate if the pulleys are aligned. Of course, it doesn't matter if the edges of the pulleys are aligned... just make sure that the grooves of the pulleys are aligned. If they are not then you'll have to change the spacing of the pulleys as necessary. After that is all done make sure you have proper tension on your belts.
Hope this helps.
