For those interested, it was recently announced that this year's tour will be Jun 10th - June 14th. Starts at Bowling Green KY, moves onto Nashville TN, Louisville KY, Columbus OH, and Indianapolis. Lots of drag racing and autocross action in the schedule.
Website for all the details is at Motor Trend Magazine.or Hot Rod Power Tour 2024.
If any of you happen to spot a Jamaica Yellow '92 Firebird convertible running around on the Tour, it'll be me. I doubt there will be more than one of those so I should be easy to spot! Introduce yourself.
I stilI need to make some more improvements to the car, like primarily a paint job and getting the fuel gauge working again, but recently bought a new convertible top so I wouldn't get rained on during the trip. The old one was really ragged and the back window was gone. That part alone should add a lot to the enjoyment of driving.
Power Tour: I heard from a close friend that didn't get his vacation approved on time that the 3000 Long Hauler tickets sold out real quick, like a couple weeks after the initial introduction, so you're down to city by city entries now. You can still go to everything on those, you just won't get the Long Hauler hardware at the end if that was your thing.
The Power Tour route was emailed to participants today, most likely it's on their website by now if you want to meet up with the tour at a certain point along the way. I looked it over some and I was struck by how much interstate travel is involved this time. Some of it is always necessary, can't be helped, but this time---I don't know, it seemed a little excessive. I'll probably take the two-lanes as much as I can to go around the bigger cities. Throwing 5000 extra cars onto a bypass around Cincinnati doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
Besides, I've already seen all the interstates!
Good for you! I made it all the way through as well, but had to use the Plan B car, the 1997 Firebird. I ran out of time on the '92 convertible Plan A because I suck at painting. The car is back to being JY yellow now, but unfortunately not all in the same shade, so I get to try again. If I hadn't screwed up a little on the first try I'd have been fine, got a couple of runs and a drip up front on the hood and a fender and then ran out of paint, but a second batch of paint mix didn't quite match the first and you don't know that until it dries. Turned out looking like some kind of custom "fade" paint job from front to back on one side when I rolled it out into the sun.
Oh well, I can fix it now without a time constraint.
This was a particularly hard Tour for me this time, didn't seem to ever be able to arrive in a timely enough manner to enjoy much of the optional features at a venue even when leaving right on time in the morning. Lots of long traffic tie-ups and a friend was having some issues with his car and needed me to hang back some in case I was needed.
