NJ auto laws

much to my dismay, while taking a lunch break today, i noticed a police road block.......the cops were telling ricers and hi-performance cars to go into a parking lot......the cops were then inspecting their cars

this is total ****ing

now i need to get cats for my Z28 and i guess i cant have a hood taller than a 4 inch cowl.....................can a cop say anything that i dont have a computer controlled carb or no EGR nor smog pump?

when does this end?

honestly, i'm not sure.

i'm not sure what all goes on in regards to that.

i don't have to deal with anything like that...... yet.

notice i say yet.

i'm planning on a full exhaust this winter.

if you can afford them, get a set of monolithic cats. i've read they are much more effective than the standard pellet type convertors.

NJ sux man... I mean... it just sux, what else can I say?

I doubt a cop even knows what EGR is. If you said "EGR" to a cop, he would probably handcuff you and radio in that he is making an arrest for violation of code/statute EGR. He would then look in his police manual and find that there is no such thing.

Dude, that SuX! Grab the cats at the swap meet...

Limit is 3 inches... the guy I bought my 3" Turbo Daytona cowl from said the inspection lady didn't wanna pass him, even though it's a 3", apparently it's just a tad taller, and was giving him hell for it...

teh cops in nj are taking up teh california tactics. teh result in cali was to set new records for street racing deaths and automotive related smog....way to go cali!!!!
i wonder why nj keeps following the example of the village idiots in california? teh roller dyno testing is gonna be gone soon because it sucks ***, just liek cali proved before nj started it. now the gorilla tactics of trgeting peopel who customize their cars.
time to look up the laws about what qualifies as profiling, what a cop can actually pull a person over for(cause that is what they are really doing, a traffic stop), and what the actual laws are about teh out ward appearance adn emmssions equipment on our cars.
i will get on this when i get hoem from vacation i guess. anyone wanna help?

later

i guess it's a good thing i don't live in new jersey.

the police would probably be after me like crazy.

i guess chrome sidepipes with no mufflers will do that.

the cops here already give me dirty looks.

*note to self, add an exhaust to that winter repair list.

emissions testing can be done with or with out a dyno

without a dyno, they just measure the exhaust at idle

with a dyno they test the engine under load

they can impound your car on the spot without cats in NJ, also expect a 1500 fine from the EPA.

as far as the EGR the cops really can't say much(as far as i know in jersey, lived there for 20 years).

If you have a good sticker then you have a good sticker(inspection) they can't do **** unless the cop REALLY knows his stuff about computer controlled cars...i wouldn't worry about the EGR, its the cats you need to worry about!
