heater core question

My friend is fixing my heater core..Hes got the passanger side pretty much loose and the center where the shifter is off. But hes having a little trouble it seems around where the steering column and where the gages are....is there something hes gotta do that maybe he missed? Does he gotta remove the whole dash, gages and the steering column? Is the gage cluster wires hard to re attach? The passanger side is kinda open. He cant snake it in through there can he???

Any help would be appreciated.

Nate

Heater core is in the dash and the dash is assembled. A mod can close this thread.

I replaced the heater core in my car twice.

The first time I used the haynes manual. Performing all the steps in the haynes manaul makes the task a 8 hour task. The manual tells you to remove the dash. Although it makes it a little easier to get the heater core our it isn't worth the effort.

The second time I didn't use the Haynes manual and it only took about 3. You only need to reach in under the dash from the passenger side floor and remove things in your way. Don't remove the dash.

After my experience w/ the heater core I threw away the haynes manual and got the factory shop manual. It is MUCH better.

Also, if your having trouble with the heating core make sure your radiator cap is functioning properly. My cap was not releasing pressure. Apperently the next weakest thing was my heater core.
