Need help with Ignition problems in CT
Hey guys, I've been having problems with my ignition system for the last 2 months or so, mainly the ignitin switch. I fixed the switch, but now I seem to have a random red wire hanging down under the dash. The car won't crank even with the new switch, so the wire has to be the problem. I've looked everywhere, but I can't seem to find out where it goes. It's a single red wire with a 1 prong connector and it says "PED 6" on it.
If any of you would be able to help me either by taking a look at it or letting me look at your third gen (or if you'd do it and tell me where the wire goes that'd be great) then I'd appreciate it.
I'm in Tolland, about 5 minutes from Uconn.
-Thanks, Brandon

Brandon-
Looking at a diagram of the starting system for your car, there is definitely at least 1 wire that I can see. From the igniton switch, there should be a yellow wire that runs to your trans. Before that, on 90+ models, there is a red "hot" wire that runs from a fuseable link to before the ignition switch into the swtich itself.
I have never taken my colum apart on the 88, so don't take this as the be-all answer. Hope this helps. If you need to look at my car, its in New Britain thru the end of October, then in Suffield after that.
Good luck!

It seems it's going to be quite hard for me to get a ride to NewBritian within the next week or so, but I should be able to by the end of October. Could you possibly send my a link or copy of this diagram either in a PM, on here or at emaxxer2002@comcast.net
-Thanks, Brandon
EDIT: If anyone else on here would be able to help me out that'd be great too, even better if it was in person at my house. Like I mentioned I'm about 5-10 minutes from Uconn, 5 minutes from Stafford Speedway and about 1 mile off of exit 68 on I-84.

I know this sounds stupid but is your clutch neu safty switch hooked up? also does it have power to everything else and just won;t crank? did it work before the switch problem? just a few questions to get it started.

No clutch safety switch, car was originally an auto, and the previous owner swapped in the 5 speed. He never wired up a safety switch. I made a post about it in the electronics board if anyone wants to check out there for a little more info. I recently found out it's a starter fusible link wire.

do your basic tests. See if you have power getting to the starter, the ignition, etc. Rule out something stupid like a bad ground or a loose wire. see if your gettin power to the trigger (purple) wire when you turn the key over.
if you think its the fusible link, then replace it.
