pink with the white connector is +12v which goes to the left assuming your looking at it from the driver side, the other is the tach signal
Senior Member
I actually was looking at old pics and the white wire/brown connector goes on the left and the pink wire/white connector goes on the right. It could have been wrong but the car started before the engine was out so I'm guessing thats the right combo?
hmm any configuration i've seen is pink on the left, the cap should be labeled

Would the car even start if it wasnt hooked up right? It started before and I never messed with those wires so I'm curious now.

I figured it out myself. The dist. cap says batt on the right and tach on the left, then I wire tested both and the pink/white connector wire is the only one with a current so thats the batt. and the other white/brown connector is the tach wire.

69Charger383: I gotta do some repairs on my 'Bird. Somethings wrong with my timing, I think my distributor is loose. I'm gonna check it tomorrow morning and maybe flush the radiator while I'm at it. Gas is about $2.70-$2.80 here in Mass. 93 octane is about $2.90-$3.00 a gallon. What day is good for you?

'85 Firebird 350: I went to look at that Black 'Bird. Someone bought it before I even got a chance to see it. Shucks! Funny though, I found another one just down the road from it. A mess of a 'Bird with a bad 2.8 and a lot of cancer in the back half. The woman wants $1000 for it. I swear people are just plain crazy these days. Damn thing is destined for the boneyard! Not 1 good thing on it, totally trashed. It doesn't even have guages. Only has the "Super Idiot Light Panel", dunno what the Pontiac folks were thinkin on that one. Anyway, I mean no offense man, but that New Yorker must weigh almost 5000lbs! Great looking and an awesome cruise car, but too heavy to be fast. How much $$$ and what shape is she in? There's no comparison between that car and a 3rd Gen. Maybe You should try to flip it for a few bucks and buy another 3rd Gen? Either way, good luck to you.

I went to replace the door handles and locks this morning on my sport coupe and everything went smoothly with the passenger side. The reason I was doing this is because the driver side handle is broke and the driver side lock has never worked. However when I went to pop the clip off the lock I noticed that the piece that goes to the rod is gone and its not even hooked up. Thats why it wont lock. Anybody have an extra part around? I need the piece that connects the rod and the lock and the clip that holds it on. I will be pissed if I have to go to a junkyard for such a small item LOL! Any body have a parts car on the side of their house?
Oh yeah, I have also decided that I work way to much on my cars because people have been stopping by out of the blue and asking me what could be wrong with car because, "I see you working on yours all the time, why do you think my car is overheating? " WTF? I dont mind working on a camaro or bird if its a worthwhile project, in fact, I ENJOY it, but I am not pulling the heads on your 1992 Bonneville because you think they could be cracked!

first i would like to thank AC again for hosting the barbeque. it was a good day and a great start to the club. unfortunateley i left my dale earnheart chair in the backyard. o well i guess we will have to have more club gatherings...
in other news... last sunday i brough my car down to new haven where its gonna be stored for the winter so im out for any cruises this year. i cleaned out a garage space and put it way and im taking it off the road untill next year. i'll save like 2 grand in insurance and hopefully by the time i register the car next spring it will be in better shape.
Brother Al: i'm still looking for a new front bumper cover and ground effects for my car. you said you knew of a good junkyard we might be able to got to? if you end up going there let me know. there are a few miscelaneous things along with the bumper that i would look for. im up in boston for the weekend but next week and weekend would be a good time to hit some junk yards if youre up for it.
AC: did u get my pm?
also has anyone heard of or been to the FALL TY-RODS AUTOMOTIVE SWAP MEET at stafford motor speedway. apparently its pretty big. its on october 21st and its 10 bucks. i guess they have a swap meet and a car corral. i might go just to walk around and see if theres any cheap race cars for next season. just wondering if its something worth going to?

i went to the stafford swap meet last year.. it was pretty big! seemed to have a lot of everything, even saw a good amount of 3rd gen stuff. ill end up going this year to look around and see what deals i can come across.
My brother in law and I got a couple spots there one year and sold a bunch of stuff. It's pretty big... can be kinda cold though lol Depends on the weather. Typical swap meet.. some good deals to be had, a lot of absolute junk, and some way over priced stuff.

I usually go to the Stafford swap meet. I will probably go on the 21st. Maybe we could meet at the front gate or something, I dont know. We should start a list of those that are going.........................
Senior Member
ya i'd probably go, even tho im pretty much broke, guess thats what happens you when you pay $200/mo for insurance for the cars and gas while workin 18hrs a week haha, hopefully ill have money next yr for the spring...

Nick, I did get your PM. Your chair is safe in my garage and I'll find a way to get it back to you. I'd be interested in going to the swap meet in Stafford. My boys would enjoy going.
Tom, sorry I couldn't make it to help out. I forgot about my buddies brother having a suprise 30th birthday party...I should've helped you on your gas tank because right now I'm paying the price for partying with Jose Cuervo 1800!!!
Tomorrow the post with our clubs name poll closes so I'll check on it and email everyone on what the choice was / is. From there I'll finish the couple graphics ideas I've been working on by incorporating the club name in them, again an email will be sent out with the gfx for people to check out and see if any of them either spark ideas for others or we want to work on some of the ones I've done.

86midnightblue:" Nick, the weekend of the 13/14 is bad for me. Oct 13 I gotta be at my Masonic Lodge for the "Open House". You mighta heard/seen our Ben Franklin "Is there Greatness in You" commercials. Anyway, I've got a ton of things to do Saturday B'cuz of it. Then Sunday I've got a can, bottle, & bake sale fundraiser to be at, 'cuz I'm an Advisor for a girls youth group. What are you doing Tomorrow? or Friday afternoon? I might be able to get some time off Friday after 2PM. We'd have a couple hours to pick apart a car. I'll PM my # to you, just gimme a call.

AC/ All: Adam: He, He! I had the same problem yesterday morning. I had an "Absolutely" goodtime Friday night! Got my weekly dose of Vitamin C in 4 hours! Then after I got up Sat, I proceeded to finally do that brake job. Took the pads off the pass caliper, went in to get some more coffee. Forgot what I did, came out and attempted to bleed the rear pass side...caliper still hanging with no pads. Pumped it a few times & came back to open the bleeder. I noticed some fluid up near the front pass dripping? It hit me like a ton of bricks...DUH!!! The piston was still in its bore and the seal was bulging. As soon as I touched it, it let go and sprayed me in yummy brake fluid. Somehow none got on the paint. LMAO now, but I was so pissed off. I spent the better part of yesterday chasing down two calipers. Autozone's got some supposed reman's, but when I opened the box, the thing I looked at had lots of porosity and no factory casting marks....POS chinese nock-off, really bad!!!! Went to NAPA, outta stock. I had to go to two Advance Autos to get 1 of each, both have different bleeders,& each came with new slider pins...$20 bucks total, but I don't have much faith in them. I think I might just upgrade the whole system this winter.

Stafford Swap Meet: I've been going there for years. They have one in the early spring around Easter and then one in the fall. It is almost always either raining, snowing, and utterly raw, its part of its ambiance...LOL! I'm thinking about reserving a spot there for this one..I've still got that Monte interior & parts 'cuz the guy backed out at the last minute. I've got a bunch of other odds n ends too and a friend has a ton of 65-66 Impala stuff. I've gotten some great deals there...I've found that the must haves are best bought early. Also, if you wait till everyone's packing out, people are willing to make great deals to get rid of their stuff. As a bonus, I've gotten some cool goodies out of the abandoned parts piles over the years...pair of perfect Firebird headlight doors, Firebird & S10 centercaps, one good Monte SS rim, a box of GM repair manuals, a Monte floor shifter...minus the console...etc. There's also the Thompson Speedway Swapmeet on Novermber 3rd & 4th, its bigger and better. Anyone wanna go to that one?
-
If I do get a spot, you are all welcome to join me or stop by for a coffee and maybe some food if I make somethin....Al

Jay: I think it was you that told me to just buy another cat b'cuz I almost didn't pass smog this year....I said my cat should be fine, low miles...you were right! I took my 'Bird out after the brake fiasco. Drove it up 91 to VT and back to see if I could find a misfire after checking my timing...My 'Bird ran great all the way up there. Stopped and topped off in Brattleboro. Came back, "Radar Runnin" her
. She started to lose power as I got near Deerfield. I slowed down a bit, got off the highway and checked under the hood to see if something was wrong or leaking...nothin. Got back on and gradually sped up, seemed to bog a bit and then I heard a pop below me somewhere.....my muffler now has some of the cat's pellets for improved emissions...LOL. I guess its time for that new exhaust too!

Hey guys, let me know about the swap meets as I am up for both of them. I usually do the Stafford every year but would like the to see the Thompson one also. Is there a Lake Compounce fall swap meet? I hear the spring one is the biggest in CT. Anyway, count me in for the swap meets!

Anyone wanna join me at Stafford and go halves on the spot? My buddy just told me his wife won't let him go. Glad I'm not married yet...LOL

How much? I am interested. What is involved as far as what time would I have to get there to set up? I have some 2nd gen parts to get rid of from my 2nd gen days. Fenders (fiberglass and stock), headers and a bunch of other crap.

Well I just checked the info, I missed the cut off for $35 bucks.
After Sept 24th its $45. we gotta get into our spot before 6:30 and can only bring it in 1 vehicle. If we meet up at say 5pm. We could put it all in one truck. I'm borrowing a friend's Dodge for the day. 8ft bed, but has a tool box that takes up about 1 ft in the front. Bring a chair, some raingear, and a tarp to put your stuff on, 'cuz the infield turns into a mud pit when it rains.

I'm deffinetley in for the stafford swap meet. i've never been to one cuz i dont think we have them up in the the boston area. i would be fine with getting there bright and early and meeting up with every one. i doubt it would be as action packed as thier racing on friday nights but i bet it would be fun day and i might be able to pick up some good parts. i have heard about the one at thompson spedway in november and i also heard it is huge (like 1000+ vendors) they are having their world series of racing on the 12/13th and its suposed to be like 500 race cars i might go...
here is the stafford flyer: http://www.staffordmotorspeedway.com...MEET-FLYER.jpg

Al: good luck with the firebird. it sounds like you're super busy next wekend so dont worry about it, im in no rush. i would deffinetley come hang out if you guys got a spot at the swap meet. i'll give you a call this week

Looks like we are officially called NECF!
AC, I really like the 2 ideas you put down so far. I am sure we will get a lot more. I am no GFX artist, but I will play with some ideas I have in my head and post up here.
I really like when logos go the simplistic route.
Can't believe we have a name, this is going to be an awesome club

i like the name a lot =D can't wait for the club next year! and can't wait to get my car back together!
Ok so we have a name but.... what about website domain? www.necf.org/net/com are all taken
maybe www.NewEnglandCamaroFirebird.org
or use a hyphen www.NEC-F.org ( NE-CF is taken )
I don't mind springing for the domain. I think it would be nice to have a page with club info, a page for the bylaws, members, and maybe an events calendar.

i am pretty new to this site, but i think it would be cool to see all us third gen guys get together next spring and summer. the 3rd gen fbody is a dying breed and it is always nice to see them. how many from connecticut are on this forum anyway? 10 -20 3rd gens cruising would be sweet.

jimmy92rs: go back and read some of this thread, you will see how many are in this club from CT and from MA. We are trying to get at least 20 of us ready for summer Nats of next year.
Are you interested in joining the club? If so PM me or AC your : name, car, online name, phone #, and e-mail.
Then you will be in the loop when mass e-mails go out about the club.
------------------------------------------
quick update about my car guys, I un-installed my 2" billet spacers last night and installed the 1.5" ones that I got off ebay. Car looks totally different (to me). Now the front and rear tires line up EXACTLY with the outside lip of the fender flare. So when you look straight down from next to the car, the tires disappear from view. Finally the look I have been going for. Took a while to get it, but I got it. Now I just need to get the inner lip rolled by my body guy and install some custom bump stops
Fun stuff.
-------------------------------------------
Back to club talk.
I too am very exited about getting the web site up and running. I went to godaddy.com and searched NECF. Turns out Jay is right but there other endings that are not taken.
would it be OK with everyone if we were www.necf.us?
they also have a couple others, but that seems to be the best one at $9 a year
let me know what you guys think. I am running through the steps of buying the domain right up until i actually hand my $ over to see what is included and so on.

.US is ok, just that it's not the typical .net .com. org which are more widely known, and remembered.
My site and domain are registered with godaddy.com. If you register a domain with them you get a free site hosting package as well, it just has a banner add along the top. example here - www.jasonalix.com I'm not sure exactly what the limits are, as far as how much storage or monthly data transfer come with it. Probably initially the free site would be fine, but as the club gains popularity and gets more hits, it may not be enough without exceeding bandwith.
I think I may get a discount on registering new domains and site hosting since I already have an account with them.

yeah, you might. I know .us isn't the best but it is available and cost almost nothing at all.
If ANYONE has any skills at making sites it would be really helpful. I have never done it. if I had, I would pay for the domain and start it tonight.
Someone else must have made sites B4.
if you guys don't like .us, there are others that still have www.necf...
If you don't want to use necf, we can use "-" signs and other things to make it work. I just really like necf since that is our name and I don't really care about .us. If anything people will remmeber it more cuz the strange .us.
But thats just my view. fill me in on your opinions. Maybe we can use the winter to get the web site nice and done up with all kinds of features for the spring.

I actually like the www.necf.us thing. the .us extension from what I remember is kind of new so maybe that's why it doens't seem like it would catch on...but maybe it actually would. I mean the people who will find the site are either people we've told about our club or people searching for new england car clubs or north east car clubs. My vote is www.necf.us
On the website creation I'm familiar with Microsoft Expressions which was the replacement to Frontpage so I know enough to get myself into trouble. We could probably find someone who has web experience over the winter to get something going.
Thanks for the comments so far on the logo. I purposely did the 2 camaro thing because I knew it'd get peoples attention and comments...no brainer it needs to show a 'maro & 'bird.
If the bird owners of our group want to submit a decent shot of their car I'd be happy to try and incorporate it into another gfx attempt. The car shown isn't one of the groups anyhow.
Jimmy92RS, there's a few of us (including myself) that are going to try and get together next weekend for some swapmeets around CT if your interested.
All, Im happy to see the interest staying alive and all the posts in this thread. I'll be sending an email to all who are in the list tonight regarding donations to a particular third generation site (insert obvious name here) about creating a sub-forum specific to New England much like already exists in the NW Indiana and South Chicago Suburbs forum, or Southern Cali or Northern Cali or Southern Rockies area......see the justification or supporting cause here?

I wouldnt mind the Necf.us thing at all. I wouldnt mind sending in a donation either, seems like the right thing to do.
I'm trying to get a nice GTA put on the logo AC, I already erased the right(red) camaro on the logo and I'm going to replace it with a T/A or gta today and then I'll shoot you a email on it or post it up here.

quick update about my car guys, I un-installed my 2" billet spacers last night and installed the 1.5" ones that I got off ebay.
Fun stuff.

Jimmy, Dennis was speaking about the entire club experience. There were about 7 of us back in July I think it was...... that after going back and forth in this thread about a CT thirdgen meet, decided to meet up in Vernon, CT for a Friday night car show. The show organizer had made a comment to us as a group "So who's the president of this club?". That comment stuck with us after the next day or so we started talking more and more about organizing as a group. Were not all hi-po cars or anything..hell, we have basic stock cars, Dennis's all out customized monster beast car, in process cars, to my POS that hasn't left the F'in jackstands in over 4 years now and I'm considered head of the CT side of the club!
There's Dennis heading up the MA group and myself heading up the CT side of it. We're in the very infancy of getting something going. I mean we just recently (10-07-07) voted on a club name, "NECF". From there there are a few of us throwing around gfx ideas for the club. Next step is getting some web space to start talking more about what our club would stand for (are we just cruisers / gatherer's or are we trying to get into a magazine for coverage, bi-laws for when we do gather publicy and etc).
One thing that I've seen more and more of since this group started organizing is we're helping each other out where possible to get us all running. I've helped a guy wire up his fans because he couldn't / didn't want to risk it. 86Z was helping tourville drop a rear end and gas tank to replace the fuel lines and pump. I'm probably going over there this wekeend to help put it back together. Were helping each other out where we can.
Summer Nats 08 is a GIVEN. We've all pretty much set our sites on that being a 100% club turnout. We just recently had a second gathering at my place in Enfield, CT. I provided the burgers, dogs, beer, soda, and place to meet. We had 7 or so cars again. Now that the season is winding down and cars are staying in garages for the upcoming winter we're going to be focusing more on getting the forementioned webspace I'd think.
I will say that every weekend before now and snow I'm in my garage trying to get my car tuned to the point I can start driving it around datalogging in the hopes of getting a dyno pull in first thing this spring. Having said that anyone in the club is welcome to stop over on the weekends to witness, hangout, help, etc.

yeah we're talking about summer nationals in worcester ma on the forth of july weekend. i've also been going for around 5 years and the plan for next year would be to get a big visable spot roped off in the park to showcase the club and have a good time. there are always lots of third gens there but the club had not really been formed yet so next year will be the goal. did you have your car in the show last year? where did you park? as far as the website goes i dont really mind necf.us but im not crazy about it either. is ne-camarofirebird.org or necamarofirebird.org taken. my only concern with the .us ending is if we put it on a sticker or a t shirt people might not know what it is. but it might be the best we can do. anyways... i dont have any any clue about how to make a website and anything is better than nothing.
Adam, did you email out some gfx ideas? if so i haven''t recieved anything. if you get a chance shoot me an email or throw up whatever you've got on here. also i might be free on some of the upcoming weekends if you want any help.
Dennis, i cant wait to se the car with the new spacers. throw some pics on of the new spacing on your cardomain when u get a chance.
