Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet
Hey guys, unless I post otherwise, count me in. I have an 85 IROC I have spent the last three years restoring and now that it looks and runs sweet, it sits in the garage way too much! This sounds like a nice get together. I will probably have my wife and daughter with me, not sure if your all singles or what but............... So there is a car show at Golfland? I will have to finish detailing the motor. Good incentive to get off my *** and do something with the car besides stare at it at night whle smoking a cigarette! Post up a final get together time at Dennys. BTW, I am in Bloomfield.

I'll stop by, but pretty much gaurantee not with my IROC. I'm waiting on parts.. again. I took Thurs and Fri off of that week to work on it and hopefully get it all back together. I'll try and talk my buddy with his 87 IROC to go.

Same goes for me. If you need / want help let me know. Us 3rdgenner's have to stick togther ya know! Seriously, I've asked 86Z to help me ALOT and he's been there when I needed him. I need to return the favor at some point. That's the best way to meet more people in the area that share our interest in our cars. Not to mention the story telling that happens over a few beers!

5:30 -6:00 sounds good, what header gaskets? the head to header or collector? i bought some head to header gaskets i think they are percy's and have changeable inserts from some speed shop in plainville, the collector gaskets i use the aluminum ones they sell them at advance auto parts, but the bolt i'm unsure of, i have to constantly tighten mine.

i want to get the locking bolts so i will not have to constantly tighten them =D, any tips when i go to install these? ill end up doing it after my fender gets fixed... i have no gaskets at all.. so i will have to get header to collector and head head to header.

Keep going past Golfland into Vernon. It's in the shopping plaza on the left side across that first big intersection after you go under 84.

oh and the quote from macco was 587$ to fix my fender.

They are pretty easy to install. You'll need an allen wrench.. I forget what size it is. I also had to use my dremel and sand off a little bit on a few of the locking clips to clear the header tubes. Nothing drastic.. took maybe a minute to do.

$600 to fix the fender? damn. It would be cheaper to buy a new one and paint it.

man just get put some welding rods on that fender and pull it, putty the imperfections, sand, prime and paint, good as new.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet
I second that one. 600 bux is STEEP! Use the magic "dent puller" "slap hammer" whatever you want to call it. Gain some experience in bondo, primer, paint. That's not a large enough dent or bad enough dent to justify a new fender in my mind.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet
should we make it for 6 at denny's then? so more people can be there and drive together? im fine with it if everyone else is. the more the better! and 600 bucks doesnt bother me, im not paying for it she has to. so why have me get the experience when its not my fault and i can get it done the right way and not have to worry about my shitty bondo work =D

personally id rather wait and try to get everyone at denny's so no one has to feel left behind or drive somewhere when they dont even know where it is they are going. so matt do you think you can make it there by 6? if so then 6:00 should be the time to meet at denny's... im sure ill show up like 15 min before just to be there for people to know where to pull in or something!

and jay what i ment by is it going to be hard? i mean hard gettin the manifolds off and putting the headers in i figure putting the new screws in should be somewhat easy.. but do you know if anywhere around here sells them in store? or do i have to order the locking ones from summit? and where should i buy the gaskets for the heads to header and for the collector?
----------
oh and ac do you know where it is now? after the other peoples directions? and if anyone else needs directions or the exact location/street address # let me know in a pm or on here and ill get you them =D

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet
6 is perfect for me. Looking forward to seeing you guys and your cars. I moved to CT about 5 years ago for a job offer. I was a hard core drag racer, every weekend for 16 years with a supercharged Camaro. Since there is no track in CT (I have taken the IROC to Lebanon Valley a few times) I have just sort of drifted away from the sport. I built the IROC to have a nice looking weekend driver, but I miss hanging around the car crowd. That was my favorite part of racing, hanging around friends with the same interests. I am a pretty accomplished engine builder slash car builder. My end goal for the IROC is a supercharged 383, but for now the little 305 runs so well I cant justify taking it out! Turns consistent 15 teens in the quarter basically stock! Looking forward to meeting you guys and maybe I could help out with a few projects sometime in the future, though family and work takes up a lot of my time. Besides the IROC I just finished restoring an 86 sport coupe with a 2.8 for daily driving. I painted it red just like the IROC, tried to talk my wife into driving it out along with the IROC, but she is not interested. OH well.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet
Tourville, I'm set on directions. Even if I get lost Vernon isn't that big where I couldn't find it quick. I'll be at Denny's for 6 and have the digi Nikon ready! My car actually started up last night but I'm not even going to be close to being able to bring it Friday

Not sure if anyone around here carries the locking bolts. I doubt any of the parts stores would carry them and would have to order, there is that speed shop right down the road from GolfLand. Was just easier for me to order from Summit and get the gaskets the same time. My car came with the headers on it, but had a mixture of allen bolts and header bolts. I finally got around to getting them all the same. As for getting the old manifolds off it's not too difficult as long as the bolts don't snap.
What brand of headers do you have? That makes a difference to collector gasket you would need and where to get it. The SLPs I have use a standard gasket you can get at any parts store.

-----------------------

My car is getting closer, and the goal is to get it driveable this week, but it won't be on the road by Friday. I still need to get to the repair shop for an alignment, and then to my sisters so my brother in law can weld up the exhaust. After that it's off to DMV for a temp reg so I can go get the emissions test done. Still need to get the windshield replaced.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet
Sorry for not responding sooner to this thread and to messages that people have sent me. I kinda thought that Ct was too far for me, but I map quested it and it is 85 miles, about 1.5 hour drive. Not too bad.

Right now, I am getting some oil issues worked out. Car seems to be leaking a little oil, not sure from where. So that might make me now want to drive it allll the way down there. I will check. The 7 quart oil pan holds a ton of oil so if I have a little leak I know I will be OK.

By the end of this month I am going back to the dyno to get my motor re-tunned and to have new brake lines, and my C5 set-up put in. Then I will be VERY able to drive down whenever I want.

I get some parts today, so I will try and work on the car and see if I feel like it is OK to get down there.

In the event that I don't make it this weekend... I will def make it the following one.

-----------------

On a different note, you guys in CT seems to have a little group forming. Up here, we have the same thing.

Would you guys be interested in having your group come up here one month, then we go down there the following? Or hell maybe we can find a place to meet up in the middle???
