Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Afternoon guys. I got a PM a WHILE ago from one of you on here about the denny's/golfland meet, but unfortunately it's been almost 2 months since i've been on for various reasons.

Anyways, my engine is torn down to the short block right now, i'm doing head gaskets, water pump, and fixing my damn intake vacuum leak finally. With work and college papers/applications (I took a year off of school to work) i've been real busy, but it's looking like the car will be together and running like before (but better) the first week of October since i'm waiting on a few parts, and I can only devote an hour or so a day to it.

Also, do any of you guys have a 600 or 650 DP with mechanical secondaries your willing to sell? I've been fiddling with this Edelbrock for way too long with no positive results, plus my car is a 5 spd anyways, so the mechanical secondaries would suit me much better.

Do you guys know if the golf land car show runs that late into the year or are you all planning on meeting up again. I'd love to meet up with some of the other 3rd gen guys in CT and just shoot the breeze, check out eachothers cars, whatever.

-Brandon

86 350, welcome back to the thread. We were actually trying to meet up at my place yesterday in Enfield, CT but due to weather in the mornign I called it cancelled and wouldn't you know New England weather screwed me again. Anyhow, we're trying to meet up again at my place on Sept 29th. Basic BBQ and a chance to meet the others who are interested in forming a club. PM Dennisbernal91z and myself with your particulars if you're interested in hearing more.

Red Camaro with silver ROH Snypers. Lopey idle, and i've tried and failed miserably to pass emission at the Citgo station 3 times. I used to be responsible for the majority of the black strips in the new THS parking lot......

Sounds sweet, but i'm not positive i'll be able to make it. I don't really know my work scedule (I get it on short notice), but when the date comes closer and if my car is ready, then i'll shoot someone a PM to get all the details.

Well I'm keeping my car, kinda glad I did. Got a killer deal on a rotating assembly... 8:1 compression with 76cc heads = boost crazy motor!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Well I guess I should give an update too.

Pissed the weather sucked, but it gave me some time to work on a couple things.
Dyno shop never got around to the N20, so no #s there yet. And they didn't get enough time to play with my spacers, so no changes there yet. But with my new ignition and new main body I picked up 12HP/TQ pretty much accross the board. So I am happy. The brake line work was very well done too. This week I am going to get my N20 up and running for real. Also get my 315 drag radials that i got in the mail mounted up.

I will be ready and tunned by the 29th so I am exited. I felt a little rushed on Sat. and was happy that it was raining a little cuz I didn't feel 100% about drivin that far right then. Now I feel fine about it.

I guess thats all for now. Hope to see more people jumping on the "my car will be there the 29th" bandwagon. haha.

AC: sorry we didn't talk Sun, I was workin on the car all day trying to find the sweet spot on my Adj. prop. valve. As well as tunning my floats and other things.

I'll be there the 29th just not in my car. Looking forward to it and then CHEVYFEST the next day. Should be a interesting weekend. Anyone plan on racing then?

I'm right off the green, the street right before Bill's auto parts by about 300ft.

Allright, yeah I know where that is.

That's exit 68. I live about a 1/4 mile away. It's pretty annoying though, the Napa auto parts is right above the Blue, and everytime I go in there to pick up something, I have to listen to some crazy *** dance rave music coming through the floor.

It would suck to work there......

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

well mines running and everything, just ran around the streets with open y-pipe to test it all out and boy thats loud! just gotta figure out how to put my clamp on the y-pipe driverside collector... i think ill have to unbolt it a little clamp it and bolt it back on its way to close to my oil tank which i dont like very much... it may even be barely touching in one spot but i do know its on the right way so i shoudlnt have to worry. then ill be looking into what exhaust i want.. no clue what to go with any sugguestions anyone?(i need the full exhaust and a high flow cat) and any sugguestions on where to drive to? im thinking of going to pops, have not heard anything bad about them except once! and i dont want to go to fastgo cause all i hear is bad things

oh and i like the name NECF - New England Camaro & Firebird Club for our club =D

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Tourville: I can't help you there, but I got that harness. Cost me $2 so don't worry about it. I spend more than that on coffee every day...LOL. Glad your up and running. My "Birds givin me some grief! Besides the thermostat housing leak, my Edelbrock waterpump loosened up...I put it on over a year ago. Thought the damn pump went bad at first and was leaking out the weep hole. Boy was I happy that it wasn't, I was ready to kick Mr. Vic in the butt!...LOL. I tightened it up, but noticed that the gasket is pushed out to one side. I'll have to redo it sometime this winter. Gotta retorque my intake too, cuz its got some oil seeping up between the driver's side head & manifold. Explains why her idle's been gettin rougher over the past two weeks...Uhg. And new tires soon, and the headliner...and the...Aahhhhhh!!!

AND bad news for NECF: Its already claimed!...kinda.

New England Camaro and Firebird Owners Group:
Doesn't look like the guy's got any cars in his group yet.

The only other thing I see wrong with "NECF" is that anyone whose got a Camaro or Firebird will think its open to all years, as the Basic name implies. We should have something more Gen specific in the name, unless we open it up to all years. As I stated before, I'm against that idea, plenty of other clubs for them. Just my .

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Well, we'll have to consider that existing group name then. What's the thought of asking TGO if we coudl say something like: 3RD Gen's NECF Group or Club. If we want to be specific then the name could be somewhat lengthy but still short enough not to sound goofy. I find it amusing that that site posted for the NECF group has almost NO 3rd gen cars in it, yes there are a few but for the most part it's 4th gen and then GM in general. I mean even the moderator for their forum site is a 4th gen guy and one of the cars in the pics page is a freakin berretta!

Whatever we decdide, keep the names coming people (email preferably) so we can gather them up and take a vote!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

AC I will call you on my lunch break today. The thing that Trish mentioned sounds like it could be promising. The dragway is closer than CT to me. But anyways, this name thing is getting to be a pain huh, haha. And man these mornings have to warm up. I have no heat and a rough idling cam, Not too bad, but def less comfortable than when it is a few degrees warmer. But oh well.

On a different note, anyone have the ability to host a website? And what of the symbol ideas?

As a super quick update on my car:
Waiting to put DR's on and machine my spacers, also in the mean time wiring up my N20 to my Digital 6 box and throwing in a new booster.

So many little jobs. So little time before the sun goes down when I get home now.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Well, good news, I got my 650DP sitting here waiting to go on my car. The bad news is, even if the car is ready for the 29th, I won't be able to make it that day, as I have work 9-1. Maybe after I could stop by if anything is still going on though, we'll have to see.

Also, just an idea, and I don't know if it's been tossed around yet, but does anyone here do auto-x? I personally love taking the car to open track days/auto-x (track days are 10x better though) and I was thinking maybe next season some of us could get together and maybe head to an event or something. Of course, i'm always up for the more popular trip the drag strip as well, but like I said, just an idea.

AC: I have had zero free time today. I acctually had no free time on my lunch break either. Talking to the gf, and driving to RI to pick stuff up for work. Ughh... Well I am back in the office, but now I gotta keep workin' since I was out in RI all day. shitty. We will talk soon, when things slow down a bit.

Oh and yeah, auto-X would be sick. count me in!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Auto X....Hmmm, sign me up! I love how these Third Gens handle. Thats what got me hooked on mine! They might not be the fastest on the road, but they can definately make up for it in the corners!
-
A friend of mine thought his '06 Toyota would handle better than my "old 'Bird". Ha, Ha, Ha. Last year I scared, then impressed him when we took it for a trip along the Mohawk Trail, Rt. 2 Mass...Hairpin turn and all those esses down along Cold River. If any of you've never been there, I suggest it. Take 91 north to Greenfield and take Route 2 West. Beautiful drive in the fall and mostly straight, until you get past the "Zoar Store". Nice cruising road.
-
Here's another name suggestions:
* CMR-TGO = Conn, Mass, Rhode Is.-Third Gen.Org
* TGO-Yankee...not the team! Go Sox! Cough!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

im up for the events... never been to any of them.. and need to do a few suspension mods on my car, also not nearly as powerful as most of yours sound! but hey im there to have some fun!

also update on my car.. it goes to pops exhaust tomorrow for a high flow cat, 3" cat back exhaust to a flowmaster 40 series muffler. its cheaper for them to do it than it is for me to order the exact same setup off of flowmaster... that is messed up! lol usually that should be the cheaper way!
still need suspen mods... and to clean up the engine bay/figure out where all my relays and sensors mount so they are not laid on the engine bay. also need to buy the spark plug wire things to neatin those up so its not zip tied like it is as of right now =D

Don't worry about suspension mods bro. All i've got is a torque arm (I had the worst wheelhop you've ever seen before I got it), subframe connectors, and poly bushings in a few places. Car doesn't handle the greatest, but it's awesome to push your car to the limit on a safe course, and have a ton of fun doing it.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

I had the same problem back in the day. My panhard rod was bent. so it became the first thing on the list to replace. Still going strong 5 years later. Hatchkis piece. This was way before the Spohn days. Or at least before I learned about them. I would get an ON CAR adjustable one now. Thats how I have my trailing arms and TQ arm and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I decided that over the winter I am going to go through my entire car and take almost every bolt out and lock tight it down. I was under her yesterday and 3 of my adj. TQ arm bolts were loose. As well as 2 of my driveshaft bolts were not tight like I remember. Oh and I am going to redesign my interior. Instead of fabric, I am going to use some sort of vinyl. I am googling materials already. Gives me a reason to get exited about the winter. haha.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Yummmmmm....winter mods. I used to love the winter mods when I had a heated garage in VT. I had radiant flooring in the entire downstairs foundation (heated cement)...was real nice in Feb when outside was like 10 and the floor in my garage was like 70! Now I don't have a heated garage but a salamander that runs on any type of fuel...diesel,heating oil, kerosene. Dennis, let me know if you want to get on board to design a new tranny xmember. We also still need to organize the names that everyone has submitted and forward out to the group.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

I'll be on board for the x-member. Getting to mine is not very easy since my exhaust is in the way and that can't get taken off too easily either. But I can def help. I have good CAD skills, can make drawings/blueprints, and can weld/cut. Only thing I can't do it bend really. But with some good heat and some leverage anything is possible. Anyways, let me know what you have in mind to get the ball rolling.

As for the names, I think we should just start a list right here, that people can add to. Like copy paste the list and then add your own kinda idea, kinda thing.

Names:
NEFBA
NEFCC
NECFC
CFCNE
NECF
CMR-TGO
NETGO

Keep them coming. I kinda like NETGO and NECF.

But still have no idea. I guess if you have a preference keep it to yourself and once we have a nice long list we will have a thread with a poll, then get the best top 3 or so and have a final picking.

AC you think its a good idea?

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Dennis, I agree with posting here. If people have strong opinions either way they might want to email us (we all have each others email now) that way we dont get a flame post started.

My car is still 2 feet up in the air and xmember very managable so we could use my car for fitment, I'm a designer as well (2D & 3D for 13 years). I'm a ProE and UG guy myself. Once we get a decent mock piece we can study that to see what mechanical improvements need to be made so it will stand up to our abuses.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

AC do you have SFC? I have hotchkis ones. If the pipes are going to pass under the tranny in some sort of humps, I would like to make the new X-member long enough to be bolted to the stock location and to the SFC. The wider you make it the more stable the tranny will be. Corvettes fro straight from one side of the car to the other to make it as side as possible. Tieing it all togeather would make a good improment is rigidity and really brace the tranny.

I have thinking of cutting off one of my SFC and using someone else's. I don't like how the hotchkis PS connector relies on a big metal plate welded to the floor.

Kinda like those tube ones that go directly to the sub-frames. Who makes those. Spohn?

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Actually I'm in my garage right now. I took the day off to try and get some tuning done. I've gotten the engine to start and idle fine with the 730/8D setup. I'm going to put my 749/$59 setup in and go from there.
SO, I might as well start taking measurements today for my xmember idea. Watch out Spohn...heres comes the competition JOKING, his stuff is nice, my entire undercarriage / suspension is from him.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Yeah mine too. His stuff is great, but that tranny x-member is kinda under thought. I think a dual hump tranny x-member is really the only thing he doesn't offer in terms of suspension

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Quick question (sorry to get off topic) but would any of you guys in the Tolland area be willing to help me wire up an electric fan to a switch in my interior? I'm not good at all with electrical, and i'd rather not screw this up.

My electric fan has just been problems with me ever since it's been running off of a temp sensor/relay up under the hood, so i'd just like to wire it up to run simply off a switch.

-Thanks, Brandon

I'm in for helping. I'm around all this weekend. You can either drive it over here or I can go over there. Tourville might chime in as well.

I would drive it over there, but right now the intake manifold, carb, etc is off the car. I'm in the middle of helicoiling my intake and waiting on my new carb, as well as setting valvelash. (if you have a helicoil kit for 5/16" please feel free to lemme borrow it). Plus, it helps to have a lisence which I won't have till october 5th (i'm younger then most of you guys here, 17)

If this weekend isn't as easy for you, pretty much any time within the next week or so will work for me, as the car isn't gonna be running for about a week or so anyways.

-Thanks, Brandon

Ha, that works for me then. What time were you thinking? I'm free basically up until 3ish, but I can always free up my schedule if that doesn't work for you. Is there any supplies I should grab? I already have a switch mounted in the interior, but is there anything else I should get? I've got the tools and everything here. Of course Napa is only a 1/4 mile up the street, so it's not like getting parts would be hard.

Sounds like a plan. Yep, just shoot me a PM when you figure out the time and we'll be good.

You gonna drive your Z over? From your sidebar info that thing sounds badass.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Hey guys, just wanted to post that the weather looks like it is going to kick *** on Sat, so I am going to wake up real early and get my DR put and on fully detail my car. Then go to Riley's a 50's dinner here that has a great gathering of old school muscle. Just putting it out there. If anyone is interested in making it up or whatever lemme know. I will e-mail the mater list too. Maybe have a little pre-AC BBQ mini gathering. Dunno.

Dennis: I might be able to do that. What time were you thinking? I've got to do 4 Masonic degrees in the morning, then I think I'm free after about 1pm.

Feel free to stop by, I have no problem with it, you might get bored though. I would say we could check out eachothers cars and stuff, but mine will still be torn down on Saturday, so unfortunately it won't be running.

I definitely hope we can all meet up sometime soon though, i'd love to check out everyones car and talk to you guys.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Dennis: Why don't you come out this way, then we could all wrench on '86 350's car. Seems like a good time. I know it's a long drive for you, but it seems like a bunch of the team are going to 86 350's. We could hit the "Berlin Turnpike" after.....I'll call you tomorrow(Friday). I've got a lot to do in the morning and it'd be so much easier for me to save a chunk of the commute time to prep my car. I've got no time tomorrow to do that.
