Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Nick: awesome story. Those guys sound like they def know what they are talking about. Would be a good resource for info/help. Keep in touch with those guys. Especially if it is so close to you.

Tourville: good to hear you are going to make it. I should have my car back from the dyno by Wed, Thurs. But we will see. I told the guy that "I MUST have the car back before Sat." And he said "I want you to have it back by Wed" so that made me feel great. When I dropped my car off, he was pissed working on a mustang that they had just put a cam in, (roller) and in 1 week the guy blew the cam to bits. The dyno shop has no idea how that happened. Damn stangs getting in my way, even at the dyno.

AC how many people we have confirmed? I am still unsure if TJ, (redfirebirdman88) is going. He lives in the same town I do but he works a lot of Saturdays. Maybe you (AC) or I should send out one last e-mail to everyone on that master list. Just in case. I know there are a lot of people on there that haven't commented in this thread in a while. Don't want them to forget about it the date.

Oh and what happens if it rains? Gonna try for Sunday or postpone a week?

I just checked weather.com

Fri, sunny
Sat, raining
Sun, Sunny

Shitty. What is plan B?

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Dennis / All, my plan is to send out an email to the "list" tonight from home. I'll have my address listed so people can googlemap directions. For a rain date I'll have to push it to the last week of September unfortunately. I'm flying out for travel on Sunday the 18th so that's a no go. This will all be in the email. Confirmed I see about 8-10 members so far. I have my buddy coming from Eastern CT only because if it weren't for him I'd never had gotten into cars like I am now.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Adam: I managed to open your E-mail, its still giving me grief when I try to open new mail. I'm close to using my BFH to open 'em...
I'm still in for Saturday & I'll have my 'Bird I just need to give her an oil change & wax....It hasn't rained in almost two months and it would seem that Mother Nature's tryin to make up for it now. It figures, I'll try again tomorrow.
The NWS is saying that there's only a 50% chance of a late day T-storm Sat, so we should be fine. If that's true, I'm still gonna make a boneyard run in the morning before the cookout.
-
Isn't Anybody game for a junkyard run?
I'm planning on hitting at least two in the Chicopee-Springfield area. One is the yard I mentioned in a prior post. There's another not far from AC's..."Leveille's" They seem to get some really highly optioned cars, maybe 'cuz its in Conn.
If someone wants to join me, just PM me....Please don't E-mail, cuz its not working right!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

I'd like to hit the junkyard.. but I'm not sure what's up for sat morning yet. I might be working OT... Probably not, but it's still up in the air right now.

I really need a rear hatch that has zero rust on it for my car. Actually I just need the deck lid, not the glass.. tho I think my hinges may be a little bent so if the price was right I'd just snag the whole thing.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Are you thinking about the yard just south of Enfield? Leveille's is on Egypt Road in Somers, a few miles off RT 83. They do have some older stuff, don't let them fool you. I've been there quite a few times. They hide the Third Gens, and older cars, down the hill & off to the right-front side of the yard. When you go there, you gotta ask them for "Camaro Stuff". I've found they often don't know what they've got. Depends on who is behind the counter. Sometimes they let me pull the parts, sometimes they want me to tell them what I need....kinda sucks. They just had a Formula for parts in the "Wheeler Dealer" recently. I was there in June and they had two beat & picked T/As, a 2.8 'Bird, a rotted '83 Z28, & the remnants of an Iroc Z. I'm not lookin for anything specific, but one never knows what you may run into. I've scored lots of awesome parts and swap meet stuff over the years.
-
Jay: If you can make it Sat morning, I know two of the Camaros at Center Auto had nice hatch panels. One had a spoiler, the other didn't. I don't know if they are still there, but I'm sure one of them is kinda safe for now. I was there this past Sat. They had moved a lot of the older cars up onto the big hill, 'cuz they're building a concrete pad on the lower side, probably for a scale.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

So it is pretty much def raining on Sat it looks like. All the forecasts that I can find show that at least a 40% chance. That means it will rain, or at least drizzle usually. I will check the forecast Sat morning and also check to doplar radar that a couple sites have to see where the rain ACTUALLY is exactly. I hope it doesn't rain, but if it does... oh well, life goes on and we will plan for the next available weekend. With a week or two more time, maybe more people can get their cars on the road, or take the time off from work.

Yes.. No..??

Oh well, I am calling the dyno today to see how my baby is doing, haha. (fingers crossed)

All, if it does rain I'll still be grilling just not setting up for a all out day of barbecue so stop on over if you want to hang out and have a burger. Chris, you have time to come over for a tune session if it does rain?

Brother Al, if it does look like the barbecue will be postponed I'd be interested in going to the scrap yard looking for a 1 pc rear seal block. I want to build another motor, either SBC or BBC for my Tahoe.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Yeah, thats the rain date. From the looks of it I can't find a single forecast that DOESN'T say it is going to rain on Sat. And the % chance just keeps going up and up. I already planning what little things I can have done on the car by then. ...hehe.

Looks like I will have time to mount the 315s and work at getting them to tuck. Maybe even maybe myself some bumpstops finally. haha.

Oh well, there is always luck that maybe it will be sunny and no chance of rain. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I think we will be good to go Saturday. Here is the latest forecast.

Saturday: A chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

JAY: Good/bad news....

Good: There's still one Camaro deck lid left that's good at Center Auto. Its glass is still intact w/ defrost grid and it has the spoiler /w the 3rd brake light in it. This car is also the one with a decent & complete BLACK interior and NO A/C...heater only.
BAD: Somebody pulled apart that brake light but its all there, I think. The other lid has been crushed and mangled. The rest of the Camaros are still there, including one with a RED interior. The Camaro convertible that has the bent "Wonderbar" also has the hollow 36mm front swaybar and a tiny rear swaybar. After looking it over, it seems to have been a six cylinder with a 5 speed. But there's no drivetrain in it now. The hint is a tube that runs from the heater core, down along the pasenger side subframe, to the front. It has a T-pipe near the radiator with one rubber line going up 90 degrees and the other continuing on straight towards the radiator. I've seen something similar on FWD GM's.
-
Tourville: If I find one of those connectors, I'll bring it Sat. I'm gonna hit a few junkyards up in the Berkshires tomorrow...I'm on vacation until next week, longer if my chief gives me the green light.
-
ALL: As far as going to the junkyards, I'm planning on starting around 9am. Those of you who can't go: PM me & let me know what you're looking for. If I find it, I'll pull it if I can. I'm not a money monger, so its at cost only. If the yard gives me a crazy price, I'll toss it
-
A/C: If you are free in the morning, join me. Worst case, we get a little dirty before the BBQ.
-
Rail: Sorry to hear that. I'd love to see that Dana 44 you've got. How'd you score that?, awesome find! Somebody near Lime Rock have it? That's one of those someday parts for my 'Bird....

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

So far it looks like I can hit the junkyard... I won't know till Friday for sure. As for the hatch, I really only need the decklid part.. my third brake light/spoiler is fine. that might actually make the cost less... lol just tell them it's got busted parts so it not worth as much.

btw, I have a Dana in my car as well

Ooohhhh!, Aahhh! Damn it, you cats in Conn find all the cool toys...LOL.
Where'd you score yours? I went to your site but I can't get it to let me read your monthly time line.
-
Jay: Do you want me to pull it or wait on that lid. It's Bright Red. They're usually fair on the prices at Center. I go there a lot, so they take care of me. I'm free tomorrow during the day and Fri too .

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

I got my Dana from someone on here. Ended up costing me a lot more after I got it. I added relocation brackets, new axle bearings, since I had to have the old ones pressed off to put the brake backing plates on, Detroit TruTrac, TA Performance girdle cover, new pads and rotors, rebuild kits for the calipers, e-brake cables... not to mention the aggravation with trying to get the brakes on had to clearance the relocation brackets big time to get the e-brake brackets in.

As for the decklid.. I'll wait on it. I don't care about the color, the car's getting painted at some point, and my brother in law does great work. I'd just like to see it to know if I want it for sure. I'm kinda picky like that I've tried buying 2 others that were "rust free" only to find out that it was more like "almost no rust".. "the body shop could easily clean it up" . The problem with them is when you can SEE the rust underneath it's too late. They rust from the inside out.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Yeah, I'm a former Chevelle guy so I'm all too familiar with our wonderful New England rust issues. This one had none that I saw, but I don't know if there was any under the spoiler... I'll pop it out Saturday and stash it in the yard out of harms way.
Hmm, I had seen some info before about the later style rear discs not fitting without mods. I' figured that if I ever run across a Dana 44, I'd likely have to rebuild it. They were only made to be abused in racing....$$$

From what I have read.. based on a lot of differing opinions, general consensus seems to be that the Dana 44 is a lot stronger than the standard 10 bolts in thirdgens. Not quite on par with the 12 bolt but will still take quite a bit of abuse. The parts are easy to come by and relatively cheap since so many other vehicles, 4x4s use a variation on them.

Noon until dark is the plan. If you want, PM or email AC and he can give you the details, it's at his place in Enfield.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

weather.com says %60 chance of rain here where I live and says %40 down there. I really hope this doesn't turn out to be a shitty day tomorrow.

If it is drizzling or anything I am not gonna make it down. It is just too far for me to go on a rainy day.

If you guys are going to still go then thats cool, but almost 2hrs of driving just to be caught in a downpour is not worth it. Hopefully we can do the rain date. I know at least 2 other people who have stuff they are doing on this Sat, but that would be free on the 29th.

I for one, just got my Nitto 555Rs in the mail and REALLY wanna put them on before I head down there. They look so bad *** in my living room. 2 315 tires stack up pretty high. haha.

Well let me know what you guys are thinking... I know there is a chance that it will only rain in the morning, and if that is true and I see blue skies by noon, I will head down, but otherwise, i would love to just wait till the 29th.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

All, my mindset is if the sky's start looking good by 10AM then I'm going to email everyone on the list to say it's a go and vice versa for bad looking skies. I'm going to be there regardless (DUH!) trying to tune, etc.

Brother Al, I had some last minute travel that put me in Plattsburgh, NY Wed & Thurs so I didn't get all the prep I wanted done for the meet / BBQ so I'm not going to be able to make it Satruday.

Dennis, if Saturday is a no go why don't we plan some time on Sunday to chat via phone or email or whatever to discuss more club related items and then get an email out to the group on the discussion and also setup the vote of possible club names and also ask that anyone with a sketch of a logo be sent to the both of us to organize.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Sounds like a great idea. If the BBQ doesn't work out, I will call you Sunday so we can go over those things that you said.

Plan B is still the 29th right?

ALL: What is the availability of everyone on the 29th? Even if we do go though with this tomorrow? maybe you guys can come up here...

Well anyways, I will be sitting here at work with my fingers crossed about tomorrow. Anyone know a better forecasting place than weather.com?

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Damn dude. That cars looks great. Esspecially for a race car. Thats cool that is has FG doors too. Must be light. you know what would be cool... Taking something like that and DE-tunning back down to a street car with tubs and all. Would be sick. Since it is rigid as sell I bet. If I have some extra $ I would pick that up and do that. I have always wanted to to tune a race car back down for the street. Seems like it would be fun, just adding options and comfort.

Oh well, good luck with the sale. How much you looking to get.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

I'm looking to get like 3000 for mine and offer him something like 2300. I have some money saved and then the other 700 or so will go towards my other engine for that thing. I just need someone to assemble the shortblock for me, hopefully I'll have the money for heads after haha. I would like to make it a little more of a streetcar but from what I'm told that car is sweet. I'm hoping to go look at it today or tomorrow.

I will pretty much give away my old stock steel hood with blister holes to anyone that wants it in the club. 0 rust/dents, pics on my CD site. Figured I would throw that out there since the clssifieds are not helping me move it outta my basement.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Adam/ All: I'm still in for tomorrow's BBQ if you are. I'm game for the 29th if not, but I'd prefer tomorrow. I've got some starter info for bylaws and some other stuff too. Here's another Idea for our group: We form a "Junkyard Net" to canvas our local joints for cool stuff we find or need and post it. Would save us all a lot of searchin, plus I'm willing to sell the extra goodies to others outside our group for a modest profit & put it aside to offset the costs of our group's "Fun" events. If anyone else wanted to do the same & stash away some of their profits, cool. No treasurer/centralized "cash box" 'cuz we'd need a tax ID, etc.
-
As for junkyard shopping, Who's in for tomorrow? PM me your number & we can figure out where to meet. I scored a complete harness for the overhead console & cut the $#!^ outta my left thumb gettin it! Now I just gotta find a decent 98-2004 S10 Blazer overhead unit. I think they're much more functional than the stock version. Also scored a few odds n ends: an almost mint Pontiac Alum. rim removal instruction sheet & the nice grey-vinyl reg/info holder in a 92 Sunbird, YAY! It's much better than a folded reg in the dash holder & fits perfect in the door pockets...LOL.
-
Anybody need these? I just found a set of pretty nice and unbroken black front seatbelt recievers and they have the GM repair kit installed. The car's an '85? 2.8 Firebird, & has 4 16" WS6 Formula dished "Tech" snowflakes w/ all 4 WS6 caps.... They're pretty nice, but the pass. front has a very, very minor curb scuff and all 4 caps are shot. Out of curiosity, I went back to the office & I asked the woman at the desk how much? She thought about it for a few moments and then said $200. Then the owner added that they're really cool rims for a pimped ride & that all my friends will like 'em too. I told the woman, "Sorry thats too much." Then as I'm leavin the place, the guy says: "They're ORIGINAL WS6 rims and they're RARE! I'd be lucky to find some again and $200 is cheap."..... Me: "No Thanks...I just can't spend that much, sorry." Boy o Boy, one of E-Bay's darker sides.... around here the avg. junkyard charges $25-$30 per aluminum rim, doesn't matter what it is. I can get a mint set at the Stafford swap meet for that.
-
85Firebird350: Sorry to hear that about bad deal. If I had the cash and a place to store it, I'd buy it in a minute for Lebanon in the spring. 'Course if I had the cash, I'd own a lot of things...LOL

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Finally drove my car down the road tonight. First time in like 6 months. Still needs a lot though lol. I measured the old tie rod lengths and matched them to the new but now the steering wheels not straight. Alignment will take care of that.

Al - I can't make the junkyard run tomorrow unfortunately. Working 5am - 11am

JAY: Congrads on your car!
No problem, looks like its gonna suck in the morning anyway. I might still go, depends how much is coming down. I'm really not up for slogging through junkyard mud....horrible stuff!!!

Tourville: I meant to post this earlier. I think I found your harness, but I'm not positive. Does it have a fuse attatched to it? I found one that looks similar to it. I believe this 1988 Camaro was a tpi 305 but the motor/trans was yanked, is it the same? This car was the one that lunched my thumb, POS!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

mines not an 88 but yes the connector has a fuse attached to it. its right next to the positive side of the battery. Its actually attached to the small harness piece which i learned is the battery harness piece after asking hawks and other junkyard places that say they do not have it. If you could just cut offt he connector after the fuseable link that would be fine, if not then i guess i would have to take the whole harness. hope this makes sense, i wont be back on to correct it cause im moving someone.. but if you have any questions just give me a call(1860-268-4007) thanks! and not sure what time ill be there but ill be there!

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

All, well looks like the second gathering is ending up like the first....rain. I'm posting here as well as sending out a mass email to say the BBQ is off for today but I'll keep the rain date of Sept 29th open for another try. Looks like a day of attacking the "to do list" around the house.

Bummer about the weather.. but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to have my car at the next one now. It'll still be in need of a lot of work lol, but mostly interior stuff. All that's holding me up from being on the road is paperwork now.

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

i wouldnt of been able to bring my camaro today anyway.. gotta figure out what this smoke is.... i mean the cars only on for about 1 minute and it starts smoking like this video... i used semi-gloss black de1635 high temp heat paint on the headers.. 500° high temp heat paint dupi-color engine enamel ceramic. also the paint is starting to bubble on parts of the tubes. uumm im sure the block has a bunch of greese/oil stains on it but im afraid to let it keep running before i find out wat others think.
here are three short video's... first is the start of smoking, second is lots of smoke, and third is after the engine is off and the smoke is disapating. also forgot to add the headers were sand blasted, then painted a day after

FIXED *deleted movies

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

alright you can ignore it =D it was just the paint baking itself on or something to that matter.. cause the paint is no longer blistered and it has stopped smoking after about 5 minutes of idling! all i need now is a way to hook up my cat to my y-pipe and its legal driving until then its exhaust hung up and driving with an open y-pip hah which hopefully i can find the right flange fitting somewhere cause autozones do nto go big enough and neither does pep boys

figures too it just got nice outside lol what a weird day! to bad it didnt get nicer earlier

Re: Any interest in a CT thirdgen meet

Tourville: I'll get that part for you monday, I managed to convince my Chief to let me burn some Vaca. I got back from the boneyard at about 11:30am & have been busy replacing a friend's gas tank strap on his POS Dodge Ram. I just read your post. I'm not positive about the year 'cuz the VIN was pretty rusted...no windshield left. I'll remove the whole harness if I can, better than havin a short. SMOKE: Looks like excess oil or paint chem burn off. My BBQ grille smoked like hell for awhile after I repainted it, but it still looks good a year later.

Dammit, it got pretty nice out! Guess I should fix my thermostat leak....LOL. Gotta love New England Weather.

What do you need? I have an extra piece of stainless 3" with the flange on it from my Magnaflow exhaust. I can't use it for anything, but if it will work you can have it.
