Firebird Tips?

Hey.

I intend to purchase a 3rd gen Firebird sometime in the next couple of months. Really, I'd like a manual transmission, but automatics seem to be a lot more common.

I was just wondering if you have any general advice on Firebirds that I could use. Not exactly what sort of engines to look for, but possibly firebird-specific problems, like faulty or weak pieces, things that are likely to break easily, anything I should be careful or otherwise aware of.

Thanks for your help!

don't think theres a lot of firebird specific problems I heard the headlight motors usually go out but thats not a big thing other than that the two(camaro and firebird) are the same

I hear that a lot about -all- cars with flip-up lights.

How much does it cost to replace the motors?

Its not the motors in the lights that go out its the bushings, on the arms attached to the motors. They have rebuild kits as cheap as $6, or you can do what I did and just buy complete motors off ebay. I replaced the ones I had with a good used set. Now if they start to fail again I will just buy the rebuild kit and repair the set I already have out of the car. Not a hard job. There is nothing major to be concerned about. Alot of little nagging things that are typical so don't be discouraged if the cars you look at have some of these issues.

Struts in hood or hatch no good.

Doors sag slightly (you can tell by looking at the rocker panel and see if there is evident scraping as the door opens or closes)

Headlights don't pop up.

Cracks on rear wing (even with new paint these will start to crack fairly quickly)

These are some of the minor nagging common problems with these cars. Everything else is like every other vehicle with age, some things will need replacing, sensors, cap, rotor etc etc.
