I need help with a 82 firebird

Okay im about to get a 1982 firebird i know nothing about carburaters.. this is the first email i got from the guy with the car...

this is an 82 firebird SE V8 w/ 305Ci block, 4 barrel carb. I blew out its original engine so it actually has a newer one in it, it's out of a 1986 firebird fuel injected. i kept mine carburated, but if you'd like to convert it i have the manifold. i put in this engine last year in January it had 150 k miles but i hardly have driven it, before i put it in i bought and put in the car the following items: new power steering pump, water pump, radiator, alternator, battery. it also has 1 month old tires. the transmission on it is a 350 w/ shift kit and 5 clutches instead of original 4.

I want to bulid this car up and make it a nice sleeper or even make it be able to beat a 77 trans am 400 with a blower that runs 11.90's....

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

also was wondering how to get ahold of a ram air hood..

Well, that car will run 15-16 sec qm. times, so your best bet would be build a stout 350/383 with a power adder, then get it to hook. You won't be pulling 11's with a 305. That motor, stock is making ~145hp at the crank....

If you don't know carbs, keep it FI, im my opinion you should drive it the way is is, while you build up the other motor. If you are serious about running 11's.

Hey I got your pm...Ok, well if you dont want to swap motors, go with a 100 shot of nitrous. Quick and easy. It wont run the time you are looking for, but it'll be a fun daily driver. Hit the nitrous button when you want that extra "kick". I think the fastest 305 time around here is like 13.4 or so....To reach 11's really takes alot! It's really not worth building up a 305 though...Just make sure it's tuned up good, then have fun with it. If you want some serious speed, you gotta get more ci's. Hope this shed some light on things......

the motor has 190hp and 285lbft torque he sad it was a motor out of an 86 FI which would be an LB9 a good running LB9 should get you low 15's get a good cam and port the heads suspension mods and a 100shot should get you in the low 13's maybe high 12'spost in one of the engine boards you'll get a more help than in the here

for a ram air hood try hawks or ASCD links at the top of all the TGO pages

glad to see your finally getting your ThirdGen
