Drive to LA

Here's what I experienced:
  • The boring expanse that is Interstate 5 in the Central Valley: Great for flat out speed tests (pinned speedometer once).
  • Hill climbs entering LA on I-5, CA 152
  • CHP. Good old "Valentine One" radar detector. Priceless.
  • LA Traffic: Truely, THE SUCK. Cod-awful.
  • Downtown LA parking: Not good.
  • I think I killed over 500 thousand bugs with my windscreen and front end.
I-405. What a mess! Gridlock all day with over 15 miles of it. Since it was hotter than it has been (I think) I was very concerned with my cooling system. I recently threw in a new 170* stat and a fan switch so I felt like this wouldn't be a problem but sitting in bumper to bumper for an extended period really tested the system. My fan switch is kicking the fan on at a way too hot temperature. Keeping the A/C on actually cooled the engine better than keeping it off.

I'm sure there are lots of things to see and do in LA but it's really too crowded for my tastes. Kind of ironic coming from someone who lives on the peninsula, eh?

yep, I figured out that same thing. In our cars having the a/c on is better than having the heat on. The a/c on will run the fan constantly, no matter what temp your coolant's at.
