If you had the head off, you could have been good to go, just open up the pushrod holes in the head...there's quite a bit of meat there for just about any SBC head, without any danger of going through anything...but if the heads are still on the car, I understand.

FYI, SA's hold many a hyd roller engine well into valve float...

Eric, finally, sounds like things are coming together and we might actually see the car on the road soon. Why are you complaining about working too much, I thought you needed money for your court issues and car? Hope things are working out, can't wait to see the car on the road, keep us updated.

im complaining about working for free off the clock , i come in early to work on the car came in today between 9 and 10 and didnt even get to work on my car till 12 but only for a few minutes,

anything before 12 is unpaid, i come in and bennie stops answering the phone and helping customers, its not that i dont mind doing it its that he keeps bitchin at me to get my car out of here, i have a deadline to meet and i cant ever work on my car.

i had to special make a socket today to torque down the studs, it was interesting the springs were in the way of getting a socket in there so i bought a cheap one and grinded it down so that it was super thin

well anyway heads are on and torqued workin on the accessories now its goin in tommorrow either way....

Sorry to hear Bennie is riding your a*s*s Eric. I know how that can be sometimes. Must suck, I agree with Travis, don't go until it's time to actually go, or tell Bennie when you come in early you are not working, period. Anyway, good luck.

HELL F*CK THIS
well what a pain in the *** sunday me and terrel tried to get that motor to mount properly and could only ever get one side mounted it was always rest on part of the motor mount...well after repeted attempts and 3-4hrs we gave up called it a night we tried prying and all sorts of **** but it would not go into place, so we pulled it back out and set it on a crate,

i get there at 8 and try again for an hour still nothing with the help of bennie THANKS, but still couldnt get it so pulled it once again, called terrel and had him bring his leveler still didnt help after repeted attempts even tried grinding down the tabs on the motor mounts at 5 o clock i gave up and kicked a few things

so tommorrow gonna do it the easier way pull the motor mounts again and bolt it outside of the car than bolt the motor mounts to the frame hopefully it will be easier

got the pushrods on the way they will be here in the morning so instead im going to just finish up the motor and drop it in complete minus the disturbtor hopefully everything goes well and im not in such a bad mood

Well E-Train my little bro, sorry for not being there in person, but I was dragged around all day.

My initial thoughts were that maybe one of your motor mounts is bolted in the wrong hole. If I remember correctly it is easy to get them cocked the wrong way.

Now you might realize why I still have my stockers

Don't give up / get upset bro, sleep on it and come back with a clear head.

Also, like we have talked about before, I would chenge a few things about the environment of your 'ROC.

You need to tow that thing home bro, where you can work on it around the clock and not be interrupted by your job / customers. It sucks when you have me or Terrell come down and we don't know where anything is and dont want to go poking around something that isn't ours or say a few four letter words when a customers around lol.

I'm glad you got those pushrods ordered though!

Just my ,

Man, had a hard time a few years back on a similar issue on an RS...(which I just bought) anyways, it took some tweaking with the bottle jack and tugging with the cherry picker before she dropped in...

Afer all that (did only take us 30-40 minutes) I'd have rather yanked the tranny and stuffed it in all at once.

Just to note, disconnect the torque arm and let it sit up on the under carriage and out of the way, helps in rotating and tweaking tranny position while stabbing. We left the TC on the tranny, no need to align another hole, huh?.

You'll get it it in, just think a bit ahead on angles and leverage.

I have to pick the wife up from SMF tomorrow night, her flight arrives at 10:00pm...I could leave a bit early if ya need a hand stabbing the engine...

How long would it take me to get from your shop to the airport?

You will have to provide coveralls and hand cleaner

Is the tranny in the car? Are you trying to put the motor and tranny assembly in together?

I've always put the mounts on the motor first then all you have to do is slide the bolts through the motor to frame mounts.

Hope it works for you!

tranny is on the shop floor, just putting the motor in but he does have the clutch and bellhousing on. when I left he said he was gonna try putting the mounts on the motor then droping the motor in.

8Mike9- if its the airport in Sac its about 35min. away with no traffic. and Im sure he doesn't have any coveralls for you.

hopefully he'll get it in today, but hes far from finished

89mike thanks for the offer but if it was my house i would say go for it but since its the shop its a no go,

Damn Eric, sounds like a pain in the a*s*s. I agree with what Vin said as well, get that thing home asap, I know I would have a hard time working on my car if it was at work too. Wish I had the time to come help you out, good luck, I am sure it will all work out soon. Glad to hear the pushrods came.

motor is in trans is in intake base is on, cross member, torque arm, rocker arms valve lash set, so whats left

distrbtor, valve covers, runners, plenium, tb, and all the connectors, and headers she should be runnin by 12 tommorrow, schweet

btw the motor wouldnt go in cause bennie did the other motor mount and it was in backwards.....so that explains the motor not dropping in

That is true. Technically self aligning rocker arms are more stable because they locate themselves on the valve, rather than being located by the pushrod. If you are truly worried about high rpm stability though, a shaft mount rocker would probably be a good investment.

Wow, those are some thick pushrods.. almost an inch? I'm sure you mean .080" thickness. I have the same pushrods in my engine, they are beefy. One thing though, you went shorter than stock? You're running stock lifters, right? Did you check the rocker arm geometry with that length? I can't comment on my setup because I am using aftermarket lifters which changes things, but your length sounds short. Just don't want you to have any problems..

Nice pic, looks good Eric. Did you pay any attention to the post by Jeremy_84_F41, he made a few comments about your pushrod length. He made the same point we have all been trying to make, the seem way to short for your setup. Anyway, hope it all works out, let us know, good luck.

they are measured with a pushrod length checker, they are in the base circle trust me 7.1 is the right length valve cover's arent on yet come on down to the shop if you think that its too short

and yes they arent .80" they are .080" typo

ill even snap a pic for you guys for you non believers,
and for one other thing on the pushrod length first of all those heads have been milled .006" 2nd of all i got that new cam, its a completly different setup therefore its different length, EACH setup is different

Does the cam have a different base circle than stock? If not, that wouldn't change the pushrod length. If you did put in a small base circle cam, that would require an even longer pushrod anyway. 6 thousandths off the head isn't going to make a very big difference in pushrod length. Valvespring installed height does make a difference. Cylinder head design makes a difference.

Anyway, cool dude.. I was just curious how you came to that length. It would suck to get the car together only to have problems. Post up pictures of the rocker arms on the tops of the valves if you want..

damn so close but so far away

all accessories are on now, plenium lid is on only one thing "f*ck super ram its a cheaply made, over priced, hudge piece of crap" valve covers were somewhat of a pain, passenger side wont clear the ac box well oh well guess its going in the garbage now. and drivers side altenator ground wouldnt clear so i had to grind that down a bit,

im tired of all these tiny problems hehe

well so whats left

plugs, wires, radiator, cap rotor, & throttle body. she should be running by friday well see how tommorrow goes if i get time to work on it or not hehe.
