we get the starter crankin' but acts like no fuel present. kinda tries and coughes a bit'. let her cool down or a cold start...she's fired up.

I have constant fuel pressure at the rail during no start cond. 38lbs. the regulator holds pressure correctly.

is it(motor) really at operating temp cause if its not and the CTS is saying it is you may not be getting enough fuel to start (cold motors need more fuel to start than warm motors)

yeah, we are hot at the motor. start her up cold, drive to the gas station like an @#$%^ pump some 91 octane, go to start and only the starter is spinnin' with no combustion. makes a couple burps like it almost combusted. keep on the starter and like on the tenth try she fires up...all stumbly at first.

Check the resistance of your injectors with a multimeter when its acting up should be around 16 ohms anything under 10 is trashed.

You answered your own question . . . it's your crummy tpis chip . . . I'd even go so far as to wager you'll find the answer in the crank fuel pulse width vs. coolant temp table (or similar for your app).

heres something to try . . .

start the car, drive around, sit in the driveway - warm it up, whatever it takes to get the car to oper. temp.

Turn it off. Give it a minute. Then try to start it again -- except floor the pedal while your cranking it. This will tell the ECM to enter 'clear flood' mode and set your crank AFR to about 18:1.

When your engine is at oper. temp it needs much less crank fuel to start then when it's cold. I think it's drowning. Let us know what happens.

Ya' you guys have good points. I will do the "flood" test and after that one, I will turn down the fuel pressure a few.

I think it's fuel related as well. I got time in about 2 hrs. to goof with he rock. I 'll let you know.

Alright, just got back from testing-

using the flood method produced no compustion.

the mystery no start problem is gone for now, the car won't do it right now.

it still has major issues though. idling at 850 rpm this thing shakes like an early mopar with a flat tappet.

I'm hittin' Terrell up to come hang and have bq' and data log my nizzle.

Lot's of suggestions, but I'd start with basics first.

Any codes stored?

If not, check for ignition issues...first thing I'd have the ICM tested at your local DAP.

You say "operating temp", but that usually hits in about 5 minutes of driving....you're kinda describing something like a heat soak issue...assuming it takes you longer than 5-8 minutes to go get gas, etc. before she acts up.

Hope ya guys figure it out tonight, post back up after you've looked it over...I'm kid sittin and getting bored

i say you need to bring it into the shop and pay $75 on a diagnosis no more spending money on useless parts that dont need to be replaced

i think there may be several unrelated problems with your car just tow it in and pay $75 for a diagnosis dont even have to get it repaired

smog diagnostic specialists & auto repair
3100 arden way
sacramento ca 95825

the tpi specialists

call me at the shop for a towing quote 916-974-7664

i just dont have time for a while to come down and devote a day im trying to get my car finished before the 27th so i say bring it down and have it diagnosed no more throwing parts at it.

o.k., o.k., o.k.

eric is probably right about coughing up the diog. fee here....

there seems to be plenty of issues at the moment.

Eric, like Trav said what would I get for my dough.........

and yes Trav, you are welcomed over my place. Terrell and I thought we would data log this Sunday, but I think I should just bring her in to the shop.

are you there tomorrow eric? Sat. works for me.

you would get told exactly what is wrong with the vehicle....so depending on the symtom we will test differently and than a quote for repair and you can choose to repair or leave knowing what is wrong with the vehicle.

yes we are open tommorrow the earlier the better

Just curiuos, but what exactly does your shop do for the diag...i.e the 75 dollar rate?

Comp test, scan, leakdown, sniffer, etc?

I don't think Eric can answer that.
Bennie, the actual mechanic will probably have to go the process of elimination route and check a lot of things 1 by 1.
I'm not sure all the diagnosis tools he has, but he has scanners and all sorts of knowledge about these cars.

again by symptoms each car is different, we do have a gas analyzer which we may use if the situation calls for it, just like we may do a compression test or combustion leak check if the symptoms call for it, so i mean i cant really say what will be done it will just depend on what we find obviously we arent going to do a compression test on this since the vehile starts up just fine and will run this does not indicate low compression. nor is it a dead miss through out the rpm range.

$75 will be the complete diagnosis none of that level 1 or 2 crap that other shops do 75 flat rate unless we have to do something like pull the valve covers to check for worn camshaft lobe or something of that nature. very rarley does it go over the $75

and del is right about that bennie will be diagnosing the car not me i work on mine and friends cars i just get paid to be a service writer there so thats all i do however unlike most service writers i can also work on the vehicles and i consider my self knowledgeable but still learning hehe but i dont work on the cars unless bennie tells me to and its nice
