that sucks

I get about 17 in city, 25 highway with my LT1. About 12-13 in city if I'm steppin' on it.

I wonder how much it'll change once I get the 4.10s in there? I guess it'll depend on how I

what i am thinking is the problem lies in the fact that i need a new fuel filter (dont have the flare wrench to do it) And my coolent sensor gone bad and maybe my carb is not tuned right, anybody know anything about the Verajet carbs other then that they suck? all i know how to do is adjust the idle speed on it

I don't know anything about them, try posting in the "carburator" forum, I'm sure someone there will be able to help you.

And just rent the tool from autozone, it's free.

Your coolant temp sensor won't have anything to do with MPG. Although I suggest you fix that

Things that can help MPG: Plugs, wires, cap/rotor, coil, alignment, tire pressure, fuel system flush (where they hook a machine to your fuel lines and clean them out - usually makes a HUGE difference in over 100k miles cars).

The TBI really excels in this department. I get all the guts and mileage of a V6 but get to say it's an 8.

Seriously though, I get around 15-17 in town. I got 26 on the way to LA with that crappy aftermarket chip that was throwing way too much gas (remember the dyno?). I imagine with the stock chip, I get around 28-30 on the road and keeping it below 75 MPH.

Ive posted already int he carb boards, no has responded in a good 2 days. im about to post in the v6 boards to see if anybody knows anything their, but anyways, im gonna get the coolent sensor saturday, and replace it then, im hoping for some odd reason that it will help me with my idle issues, which im sure detrackes from my mpg cuase i got to keep the rpms at 1k or ill stall when the engine is cold

where is your fuel filter? when i took mine off i just used a open end wrench and a crescent wrench and they worked fine. got gasoline all over myself, but it worked. stung a bit.

although it might be different for that dinosaur of a thirdgen you're messing around with.

last time my car ran i was getting 12 mpg city, but that was cruising at 60 mph in 2nd at 4.5k rpms, with a slipping tranny, bad fuel filter, fubar'd cat, and almost dead ignition coil. i was on the pedal WOT all the time, because i was only getting like 70hp/90tq to the ground, i couldnt even chirp the tires without turning!!!!

new results should be much better.

its where the fuel line attaches to the carb, went to use the open end w/crescent wrench method but the fittings started to before it was broken loose so i stopped trying to do it immediatly. and just did the rest of the tune up job (wires/roter/cap/plugs/airfliter and oil and oil filter change a few hundered miles afterwards)

ahh, mine is back by the rear passenger wheel well. its just your average fuel filter though, right? the filter side fittings should can be held in place by a wrench, right? the hose side fittings are supposed to turn.

12 - 15 MPG out of a V6 is crap.

You should at least be in the 20's IMHO, my hell camino gets 12-14 and that is a V8 with a Holley 4BBL. My old S-10 with a 4.3L V6 got 22-26.

Just do a V8 swap already haha

I average about 20-22mpg with half city and half hwy. I agree, that's really crap to get that kind of mpg from a v6, go v8, hurry up.

im thinking either my carb needs a rebuild, or a pluged up cat, or really bad carbon deposts due to crapy CA gass

vacuum lines can do it too

my car gets anywhere from 20 to 25 or so, about 2/3rd's or my driving is highway, but whenever I'm driving around town I REALLY beat the crap out of this thing in anticipation of a v8 swap sometime within the next year.

the little 3.1 just won't die though.

it keeps throwing 5 dollar parts at me to fix and that's it

one of these days I'm going to throw my serp belt and go "TIME FOR A LT/LS1!"
