comp dropped the ball

so the shop was degreeing in my cam (eric-read) and the cam was supposed to be +4 degrees, and it was dialed in dot to dot, and it was -8 Degrees, thats a 12degree difference. their tolerance i heard is a max of 6 degrees +/- so this is double what they allow.

good thing im having it dialed in. otherwise i would have had a real sloppy engine. instead of sending the cam back to comp and waiting another 2 weeks for another cam. I purchased a 9keyway adjustable timing chain set. when that arrives, the shop can bring it back up to where its supposed to be. and i can be good to go.

if it wasnt for this problem, my engine would have been done today. now it will probably not be done till friday or so.

It's not like I build engines daily or anything, but that really seems excessive for a shelf grind.

That sucks Travis, at least it will still be done this week though. Besides, if you rush the job it will end up like crap and fall apart like Eric's car, lol. Let me know if you need any help, I have the next 2 weekends off. Keep me updated bish.

they would hassle about it and take too long, if i just get the timing set, its an easy fix, i just wont recommend comp anymore.
or if u must buy comp, do yourself the favor and have it degree'd

The only time I had a problem with a Comp product was when I received one bad roller lifter in a set of 16. They FedEx'ed a new one out at their cost and never asked for the defective one back.

Out of curiosity, you don't have any core shift, do you?

When the block is cast, the sand cores can shft sometimes, so the position of the cylinder bores, cam, etc. can vary.

If the cam centerline is shifted to one side, then a roller lifter won't touch the cam lobe at the expected spot and the measured timing can be off. Most blocks are shifted to some degree unless they've been blueprinted. Usually it's minor though, and the lifter bores should still be aimed at the cam centerline.
