Smog stuff

Have any of you taken the all the smog stuff off your cars? I have been thinking about but I am wondering if it's going to affect the way the car runs? I've had differing opinions on it so if anybody has first hand experience that would be killer. BTW, up here we only have to smog if we sell, so thats not a problem.

If your thinking that by taking off the smog crap that youll gain any hp.. you wont. plus by keeping on the smog equipment, your keeping the smog down in your area SO that you can keep only smoging when you sell. please keep your smog crap on so you can make up for TraviZ not smoging at all!

I'm not thinking about gaining horsepower, more along the lines of being able to work on my car without all this crap in the way. I got bruises on my arm trying to change my o2 sensor, it's kind of a tight fit to get to anything.

Im not going to try to sound like a dick, but if i do, im sorry..

Your going to get bruises scrapes, cuts and other **** working on cars period! hell, half of the cuts i get are from working on the car, Trust me, If you area ever goes to smog checks every two years like it is down here, you're going to have to put everything back on, leave the crap on there, and deal with it. plus, you'll keep your air nicer.. .come down to the Central valley and see how freaken hazy it is due to all the smog and crap down here. hell most of the time i cant see the mountians! tough up and work around the smog equipment, 100's of other members of the board do.

You won't see any real gains by removing your smog equipment. You would, if say you had a plugged cat, however if you are just looking to strip smog stuff it is not worth your time. As anyone knows who lives in a smog state, especially California, that you have to get it checked periodically and it would be a hassle putting it all on and off again. I took off my CC rochester awhile back in favor of a 4150 650 Holley, yes it did alot for me, but in another year I will have to put all that stuff back on the car. It just really isn't worth your while on a street car.

No reason to be a dick! j/k

I am just sick of the crap. I literally cannot fit my arm anywhere one the passenger side. I had to get my little brother to change my spark plugs, at least the back two. I'm probably not gonna do it, but I'm still curious if it would make my car run poorly without the stuff. I've heard alot of differing opinions on it, I was just hoping someone had some experience.

i have no smog whatsoever, i did it mainly for the super clean engine bay im shooting for. like an older car, just an engine, thats all i need. except fuel injected, so its hard to hard wires, but its coming along.

with car near stock and all smog removed, not one bit of difference in power or drivability. however you need to run a colder thermostat otherwise the egr light may kick on if it hits 200ish degrees.

Car: A beater.
Engine: Not enough HP.
Transmission: Automatic... I can't drive a stick!
Please... Please... Please... leave your smog **** on the car.

a. It'd be a hassle to take it on/off if/when your area goes to 2 yr smogging

b. Nope no performance gain on a street car that's a daily driver.

c. Unfortunately, all of us in the Valley see the damage from people who remove their smog stuff... Like Brandon, Firebreed, said, it get's so bad we can't see the mtn's some days! And I actually live closer to the foothills than he does. I'm 10 mins outside the mtns.

Like SmallTires said, if you got a clogged cat, you maybe see an increase in performance... But if it's clogged, just go get a new one.

Anyways, just my .2 cents

cars are not the problem, its the commercial trucks that pollute freely, and business's. cars are a very minor contributor to smog polution.

Yeah, I feel for you valley folks. All the crap from LA and the Bay blows down or across the coast and settles in the lower areas there. Anaheim... brown town.

This crap has to change (but not at the sacrifice of my car).

Smog on.

Anyone who has seen my engine bay is amazed at how clean it is once you get rid of all the unneccesary crap like A/C and SMOG!

I won't cry for the "pollution" that comes from my car because the higher ups don't care about the big rigs spitting tons of visible smog and NOX into the air. Stupid hippies.

They just tax the little guy who can pay (us).

just becasue you dont have to smog your cars now, doesnt mean things will stay like that. expect the whole state to require bi annuak testing in the next several years. also in 2007 testing of diesels is supposed to start.

I know their talking about every car 15 years and older to have a test every year and anything 96 and newer with just have an OBDII monitor test(no sniffer no dyno), also thinking of testing motorcycles. don't think they will test diesels any time soon because as it sits now testing a diesel would kill the EIS machine.

Not only that, but then you would slow down corporations and big business and that's where the real money and congressional backing is at.
