Header sound difference
I am installing my headers this week and am wondering what kind of sound difference you guys with headers noticed after they were installed.Did it get louder,smoother,raspy,etc...?I have stock manifolds,y pipe,3"dynomax cat, stock pipe to a flowmaster right now.I want it like this but louder.

I went from Edelbrock headers to SLP 1 3/4" headers and it sounds smoother and a little quieter... May all be in my head, but it does not sound as good now. A stock manifold though compared to any header, it should sound better, probably a little more throuty.

Well,I start them today so I should have them done tomorrow and I'll have to drive it over to have the y pipe welded to the cat.I want them before we go to the track.Besides, they're just sitting in the garage taking up space.I puttin in my new valve covers too. These should clean up the engine bay a bit.I think I'll polish the stealthram before I install it.

I noticed a different sound when i did my Hookers. You should turn your car on with only the headers, IT SOUNDS SOOOO COOL!!!! Try it bro. Also make sure that your run your battery cables away from the headers on the passenger side.

I'll fire it up with the Y pipe but I think my nieghbors would be out to get me if I did it with just headers.

Dont do it with the Y-pipe on, It doesnt sound the same as open headers. You got to rev your motor up with open headers. Try and you'll see what im talking about. The nieghbors wont do anything. Its not your going to do it all night....
I remember installing headers on my car I noticed it just had that rougher "thump" to it at idle and accleration compared to the manifolds. And we both have 305's so I'm sure it would sound similar.

I also noticed the CODE 32 after the install... which is EGR problems?? GO figure. I could not get away from it. People say that the headers dont alway back pressure to build up thats why im getting a code. You might need to delete it from the PCM. I was trying to do that but decided to get an LS1 better. LOL

I'm having EGR problems as well due to no more backpressure lol. I'm about to do a quick relay mod which will trick the computer into thinking it's working lol

87TPI, Your going to have so much fun on the passenger side LOL!!! Just take your time and try not to get mad
You might need to lift the passenger side of the engine up to get the new header in there. Good luck
urbanhunter44, that sounds like a really good idea about the EGR problem, I wish you would of told me about that before i got pissed off and bought a LS1LOL, Hope it works out for ya!

Haha, that's why I started on the driverside.I still have to move all the smog crap out of the way on the passenger side.I took off the valve covers show it should help with clearance. It should be done tonight.

Yeah getting all the smog crap is crazy, and also taking off the valve covers!! You should put new spark plugs in there since you got the room. Are you going to get new Spark plug wires?? I bet your excited to get that thing started huh? In due time in due time
----------
and other thing, That last bolt on the passenger side in the back is going to take everything out of you. That it self is an all day project. HAHAHA, Good times

with my exhaust setup on the LG4 edelbrock headers, y-pipe and i THINK its a flowmaster.... ive been told my car sounds like a 5.7
the one thing about headers....while you are there and installing the them i would absolutely suggest that you make SURE you get some locking header bolts. otherwise its all bad
hope it works out for you!

Well the headers are done and all I have left to do is install the Y pipe and passenger side valve cover.I want to track down the douche that designed the smog hoses on that side and brake his legs! What a pain that was.Next time I'm using a cuttoff tool for the ypipe seperation as the only thing I had was my air hammer.I'll be starting it up tonight and I'll get some open Y pipe video. This thing sounds like it has a 350+ with stock manifolds so the headers should sound awsome!Oh and I found why my primary fan wasn't coming on,the manifold melted the connector and the wire on the fan switch.I had to raise the passenger side of the motor about half an inch and I had to unbolt the steering shaft.Dr side was cake.

awesome, can't wait to hear that baby run. yesterday i found a decent size puddle under my car. From the looks of it it could be my power steering pump. gonna order a new power steering pump, and underdrive pulleys tomorrow.

That sucks but atleast it's an easy fix.I though I heard it whining a little when you were up here but wasn't sure.I have some pics of the old manifolds next to the headers,a pic of the manifolds off, and a pic of the new valve cover and header on.I'm going to wait till next week to do the valve covers though,I need to drill the holes for the pcv and filler cap.

I don't but I wanted to keep it all hooked up until I did the headers.I will leave the cat on though.I want more room and for it to look clean in there.
----------
I tried but ended up throwing my passenger side valve cover across the front yard!I hate the gaskets they use.I would have gotten the damn thing on the first time if the friggin wires were out of the way,ok I'm getting myself mad again.I'm going to run the wires through on the inside of the runners for a cleaner look.

It's amazing how many crimps there are on that pipe compared to the new one. There were NO exhaust manifold gaskets on the old manifolds.
