Pull the Y-pipe and alternator Just be sure to soak the bolts on the header flange with PB Blaster or similar, and work them loose (try tightening them first to "break the seal"). It's EASY to snap studs on these.

I've got my driver's side manifold out of the car and the passenger's side is almost out (putting in my LTs) and I'm just doing all the plugs and wires now while I have a chance

Doing it isn't bad in a 4th gen, if you pull the Y-pipe the passenger's side becomes easier. It's possible to get them from the bottom with the Y-pipe on but it's ridiculously hard.

That's just what non-4th gen owners think Some things are unnecessarily hard, but alot of things are the same.

well, it turned out to not be so bad.. i didnt have to remove anything.. the plugs are tough to get to... but each one has an angle with a little room.. so i used a go thru socket for the plug and an adjustable head ratcheting wrench and was able to get them done this morning... took like 45 min for the pass side. 1 from the top, 3 from the bottom... done deal.

I took out my passenger's side plugs in about ten minutes today, with the Y-pipe out. It really isn't hard on a 4th if you get rid of that thing.. My dad had a nifty socket to help do the plugs with the headers on.. it's got one side missing so you can slide it onto a plug from the side. Really slick! Course I won't need plugs for another 100k now

of course, I've already got the driver's side long tube in and the passenger's side manifold is out of the car and the other one goes in tommorow morning. Then I get to enjoy open headers all weekend till i can get her to the exhaust shop in the morning on monday.
