Don't lose hope, the police may find it. My car has been stolen THREE times! The first two times the police found it up on blocks after about a week. The top was cut, all the wheels and the stereo were gone. The third time it was gone for about six weeks. My Brother-in-Law (who owned the car at the time) spotted it while driving on the interstate and called 911. The Highway Patrol caught the guy and arrested him. He had cut the front seatbelt shoulder harnesses out, and slashed all the seats (factory leather) and door panels with a knife. Still the car was recovered each time and it was repaired.

This is why you need a "kill switch" which only you know the place of... a simple on/off switch for something important... like the starter, or fuel pump, or something.

around my parts they don't bother stealing the car. they just bust it up severly. I spend thousands every couple of years on simple body work alone. Busted windows, dents, scratched paint, etc, etc...they don't even steal **** out of it once they bust it up....just morons out to break ****

its funny i was thinking of a kill switch while i was at work today because i know these cars a so easy to get into, im just mad the rims a c5 zo6 rims not cheap, but its a one of a kind if anyone looked at the pics, and with the headders, cam, and LOUDMOUTH exhaust its not hard to miss it thankgod i put the LM on it it draws a lot of attention now at this point in time thats unwanted attention is much wanted.

Wow, I just got done drooling in the thread with the pics of your car I just had an alarm put on my car last week. It disables the ignition when the alarm is on so even if they do get in the car it won't start. I also have a fusible link in one of the main power wires for my painless wiring kit. If I pull the fuse the car will never start and the link is hidden in the dash. There is only one other person that knows where its at. I feel terrible right now after lookin at those pics and then hearing that it was stolen.

as for the insurance i have full coverage on it but for restored cars i gess there is a special insurance that you have to get. i stated my car as a 85 firebird and nothing else, because of insurance costs, so they will cover the cost of the car which is like 1500 better than nothing right. i have one of those alarms that disinguages the starter when the alarm is on but sad thing is its still in the box because i literaly just got the car done the day it got stolen so my work is somone elses fun. out here you have oakland, san francisco, and pittsburg which are cities close to mine which are notorious for car jacking, i expect it to be on blocks on a side street but i hope i get it back for the most part i think it i didn't have the rims on the car this wouldn't of happened, those rims are on almost every F-body and corvette i see out here so they sell quite nicley, and i have lock nuts on them so if there not coming off most likely they will get pissed and **** the car up because they didn't get what they wanted thats how people are out here in the bay. Thanks for all of the coments on the car, sad to see this happen on my first car i ever hand and only being 18 and working on it all winter but im just happy i didn't put the supercharger in it yet id be pulling my hair out if i did.

My car had wheel locks when I got it. And you can get past them. It just takes a while and a really big hammer. But good luck with your car. Hopefully they'll just take the wheels and dump it. Or better yet, you'll get it back the way it was.

It was hands... not fingers... and they still do it to this day in the middle east. they cut of your right hand so you have to eat with the one you wipe your self with.

Sorry to read about your loss. I agree that barbaric torture should be appropriate.

Two of my three thirdgens have been stolen. One wasn't recovered, but one was. So there is hope.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Sorry to hear about the car, not to get out of topic to much but if someone ****ed with my car... id beat their face in with a breaker bar, or a torque wrench, which ever ones closer . But for the most part i just pull the rotor out so they wont go to far without it.

That is a real shame, sorry to hear. They used to hang horsethieves!

Quick question: Did your car have VATS?

His was an 85, no VATS. vats started in 88 in GTAs and 89 in the rest of the line up.

That's what I figured, no VATS. It is a bit harder to steal a VATS car. Didn't know what year they started, thanks!

Vehicle Anti-Theft System. There is a diode in the ignition key, if you put in a key with the wrong one (there are many possible combos), you have to wait 15 minutes between tries to start the car. Not great for thieves!

Get the anti-theft system

A friend of mine had his 88 stolen twice. Got it back both times too, so there is hope. Another friend lived a block away with an 89 with the anti-theft system, and never got it stolen at all. Get the anti-theft system

Good question, I don't know if you can retro-fit VATS.

the scum bag most likely broke the steering column and started with a screw driver. it only takes a few seconds. keep a bat in your car. hahaha and when you find him, play home run derby

There is a RESISTOR in the key not a diode. There are 13-15 different resistances for those resistors.

You could retrofit VATS into your car but it would not be cheap. Ignition Cylinder and keys, VATS module (Matching the resistance to the keys), wiring and a computer from an 89 because the computer is programmed with VATS info on it.

I have V.A.T.S. on my car, and it sits with the T-tops off all summer. Downtown, out in the rural areas, in the suburbs, I'm all over the place. I even have a system and polished 16" iroc rims on the car. It needs paint though, the clear is going.

But I had MY SPARE KEY and I couldn't even steal my own car. I lost my keys, and had no alarm remote. I put my girlfriend in through the top (T-tops were off as usual) and had her remove the lower kick panel (like 5 torx bits, but I stay strapped) and yank the VATS fuse.

The alarm went off.

She yanked the siren fuse, and it continued to go off.

Even though the diode is the correct ohms on my spare key (it works when the alarm is off) it didn't work. The alarm has a starter kill in it, and if you try to start the car as long as the alarms activated, it wouldn't start.

I even pulled the battery cable. As soon as power was given to the car the alarm sounded again.

It was ridiculous, i could do nothing but wait for my keys to get back (fell out of my pocket into a friends car)

But makes me feel alot safer knowing that as I do more work to the car, it's very hard to steal, haha
