Is this a weekend car, or a daily driver? Might determine what gears you want to run. Also if you want to upgrade/swap to a T5/T56.

I can't believe the first response wasn't, "ditch the TBI."

ouch kinda hostile there koolctk. urbanhunter commentary on here because he knows quite a bit about 3rd gen motors. anyways back to topic if you Theres many post of getting better performance out of ur 305. if you looking for mild inexpensive performance you could what porky and jesasarusrex requested you to do. If u looking for maximum performance, go with big cubes with supercharger.

thats was kinda uncalled for

If I had a nice LO3 I'd get - headers, highflow cat, catback, dual snorkel air cleaner or modified TPI airbox(camaro only), ultimate TBI mods, intake manifold,S/R torqurer 305 heads, nice cam(I hear LT1 cam works good with the TBI), and of course some tuning. with the auto I get either 3.23's or 3.42's for gears.

with my extreme amounts of knowledge, i say that you should keep it nice and good running and save for something else be it a swap or different car or just make it a nice cruiser.

and my bad about that just got a little heated earlier at the fourth gen owner, my bad.

id get an open element air cleaner instead of the dual snorkel (good luck finding one), performer rpm (air gap if u wish), and id get some vortec heads over the torquerer 305 heads, LT4 hot cam, and tune tune tune.

You know what. Your always making lame stupid remarks and they are not tech related. Sure anyone can ditch the TBI but then you have emissions to deal with. What if he doesn't want to deal smog issues in the future. When you make a comment you say it without thinking and everybody's situations are different. It is something you have to think about rather than making stupid comments.

And as a previous TPI owner there are MANY options.

Don't let dumb remarks bring you down if your new here. If you have the desire than go for it. There is also a TPI section on here.

And this goes for everyone. If your going to make a dumb comment then don't make a comment at all. If your not here to help anyone then don't post. There is an archive on here too that goes back several years so a search should more than help.

Well said

And also as a former TPI owner, it is pretty darn sweet and a lot of mods are avaliable. The HSR just suits my driving style and power thirst better out of the box. Bang for the buck though TPI would be a good swap.

For tbi, do all the free mods first, and maybe check into headers/gears. stuff that you could swap over to a future engine/induction swap that way it saves you some money. maybe even with a full exhaust and other tidbits you may find happiness with what you got, and if you crave more and do a tpi or other induction swap, then the money is not a waste!

You might want to see what a TPI car runs like and see if that will quench your "thirst". If you're ever in my neck of the woods, feel free to PM me or email me and we can cruise my IROC. I know that before I removed the cat and did the LCARBS, I went nose to nose with a slightly modded 5 speed 5.0 TPI 88 IROC and passed him in 2nd gear. So yeah, the 5.7 is a step up, and a manual gets you more ponies to the rear(and it's lighter from what I hear). My 1st 3rd gen was an '84 carbed 5.0 Z/28. I felt a noticable difference in power between the 2 cars. You can also shave wieght to increase your response. I read, for every 10 lbs. shaved you gain 1 hp. Not sure if that was rotating mass or static though. Best thing to do is educate yourself in this forum by doing searches on subjects that intrest you (I have learned sooo much here.) and go to a few gtg's and meet up with some of us(There are also good books dedicated to 3rd gens). Look at what we've done. Figure out a goal for your ride. I'm sure many of us could tell you that the goal has changed over the years. The average peson won't want tall gears if it's going to be a daily driver(gas milage, constant shifting, etc.)

well i have to say something here

emissions wise wouldnt really matter as since tpi was an option that year... he can switch without going to a referee as long as he stays with speed density since its a 91 he may put tpi on there..

as long as its an engine option that year for example you can take a 91 6 cyl and make it a 8 cyl tpi, or 305 tbi to a 305 or 350 tpi, as long as ALL orignal engine specific emissions equipment is retained

meaning you must have a a tpi evap canister, and dual cats i believe for 91 and 92 since it was standard with 350, ect,
