headers got me fed up... vid added below

i am over having these ****king headers on my car. i dont know if its just my luck, consequences of having headers, the header brand, bad work done or what but i blew a 2nd exhaust gasket for the 2nd time in about a month in the exact same spot, a month after i got my stage 8's installed. im ready to trash these things and pee on them and reinstall stock exhaust manifolds

Re: headers got me fed up

What brand are they? If it's on the mounting flange, it sounds like you have a warped flange.

Re: headers got me fed up

I agree, take the side in question off and put a level on the flange side to see how out of whack it is.

A lot of times the weld job on the primary tubes is a big blob and needs to be ground flush, or, the flange is warped and needs to be flat again.

I have done this before with the help of a sidewalk and a BFH.

You can always get a nice new set of headers, I'm guessing they're Blowtech, Dynocrap or Summit brand?

Re: headers got me fed up

Definitely don't go with paper gaskets again after your friend checks the flange bro, please get copper or my personal favorite the "Dead Soft Aluminum" ones made by Percy.

They are well worth the extra coin for the aggravation you've obviously already experienced. I've ran these for years and have came back to loose / missing header bolts and it still sealed.

Re: headers got me fed up

nice yeah i was thinking about that. a small bbq to do a small engine tear down. the teardown probably wont talk that long anyway.

i decided to take some vids of the car while i did the alternator.

heres just a clip of the exhaust from the rear
not too bad for an LG4

Re: headers got me fed up

I use the SCE copper gaskets. They have always worked great for me. Do check the flange. If it is warped (depending on where) you might need to straighten it, or have it welded up and have it resurfaced.

Anytime your changing out gaskets because they are blowing it is usually one of three things. Either the exhaust system is hitting the ground and causing the bolts to loosen up and or compress the gaskets a bit further when it hits, since you said you have the stage * fasteners I do not think it is a loose bolt example, or the flange is warped.

Those are the only things that cause header gaskets to blow. Of coarse cheap paper gaskets can cause an issue too.
