20 year old gauge or elect. gremlin?

I posted this in the elect. forum, but wondered if you locals have faced a similar issue:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...ml#post3687483
Thanks for the help in advance. I seem to get a better response from you locals. Also, now that I have the Optima gel battery, I'd like to re-locate it to the back, where the spare used to reside. Anyone done this or should I just do a search in the elect. forum? I think Summit and Jegs has a kit. I think I'm going to ditch the side terminals, but I'm not sure yet. Any suggestions/pics of relocation are welcome.

Relocating to the back shouldnt be hard, just make sure your kit is nhra certified if you ever want to hit up the track.
I will see if my buddy carguy502 can give this thread a read, he has it done in his nova.
The hardest part for me would be neatly routing the cables back to the engine

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to check both Summit and Jegs. I'll be sure to check for the NHRA stamp or sticker. Safety is important as well as track time! With the newer Optima "gel" is it required to have a box? Are there still vapors to worry about? I'm think about putting it where the spare and jack used to reside. It's directly behind the right rear wheel. Anyone else done this yet? I know BMW's come like this from the factory, so it cant be too difficult.

I know a company that sells brackets for battery trays that bolt right into that spare tire comparment, want me to find it for you?

edit: found it at UMI, It's only for fourthgens, but check it out, maybe easily adaptable? I dont know.

There's one for our 3rdgens by BMR fabrications:

I think I'll go this route when the $$ is there. It looks like the same one.

Yup! It looks the same to me. I'll have to be patient though. I wish I could convince my wife that the $ I saved buying the battery from Costco for $129 vs. $196 in town should be good cause to buy this, but then I still need the rest of the relocation kit Patience seems to be a reoccuring theme in my life!

That's the plan. I leave for Atlanta this Saturday and return again on Saturday following... That's the day before this thing.

Re: 20 year old gauge or elect. gremlin?

I took my IROC to the local Kragen's twice and had a load test done on the battery and alternator. Both times it read at 14.8 on battery and alternator. The 1st time I went the gauge was reading correctly, the second time it was below the middle line, so I think my gauge has a bad connection or is broken. The car did just turn 20 this year. Anyone else have this issue? My oil gauge bounces at low RPM's too.
