I will be getting my car smog soon and i wanted to know if i would pass with a stock l98 with 24 pound injectors, should i buy a afpr and adjust the fuel pressure or does the stock prom compensate it enough to where it's not running rich

Re: question about smog

If the smog tech sees an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, that will be an instant fail.

Re: question about smog

the ecm needs to know it has 24lb injectors otherwise youll be running pig rich ,

bump down the fp and you loose fuel atomisation so loose loose situation

my suggestion a chip with the fuel injector rating changed, and than nice healthy cat....

I dont think most smog techs would know you have an AFPR on. Its crammed in the back. I took my formula to get smogged the tech left the A/C on, didnt check timing right, and put N/A for EGR.

No, this was at a shop bennie used to work at.

"test only"/"no pass no pay" stations are the best. I went to one with the Iroc, tech never even opened the hood.

24 lbs injector are fine. It's not gonna run rich. If it's running rich, it's not because your running 24lbs injectors.

A lot of AFPR's have CARB EO numbers so you're fine.

It really depends on the rest of your engine. If your O2 sensor is in good shape, you'll probably pass ok. But with the bigger injectors and the stock prom you will be running rich upon acceleration and wide open throttle.

and for the record, 24# injectors are NOT smog legal!!
I'm running red top 30#'s and I passed just fine. Fuel injectors are a "stock replacement part" so they're fine. Just dont mention to the tech you've changed them and save the hassle. If the tech asks any questions just say either "Its all stock" or "it came that way when I bought it." If he gives you further hassle just go somewhere else. Some techs wont touch a modified car because they are afraid the state inspectors might be trying to test them and get them in trouble.
