I'll be out there tomorrow working on my "driver mod". If anybody's out, come on by and say hello.

Side note: I wish I had some 3rd gen business cards to hand out with some swell graphics and a link to our website, etc.
Whenever I run into somebody with a 3rd gen I've never met, I forget, or don't get the chance to navigate them to our little hole here.

Re: Sac Raceway - Wed 9/30
Driver mod needs more work Robby, eesh.

Driving with these M/T DR's was like I had never raced before. All my 60's were terrible, like 2.2-2.4. I wasn't even launching that hard and I would spin. I was 1/4 way down the track a couple times and felt the car losing traction still.

Do I just need to heat the crap out of them to get a decent 1.8 60' or what?? Different launch technique? Christ.

All the runs showed the poor 60' netting 13.3's and worse, but trapping 109-110. Part of my intercooler pipe must've popped off again somewhere I couldn't see because I had 0 boost the last run and a poor 2nd to last run.

Not real crowded. The air was great and I got like 7 runs in! Too bad they all stunk!

I run MT Drag slicks, but I leave at 35-3800 rpms, the DS's are a more conventional wrinkle wall designed to wind up & release. I run mine at 13-14 psi, & yes they have to be heated to about a 6-8 second burnout.
Bennie is running MT drag radials & didnt like them in the begining, but after a few runs he figured out how they worked, ie tire pressure/launch.
Better figure it out before 10-17!!!

Word, yeah I might have to go 1 more Wednesday!

Need to work on my rolling burnouts I suppose.

Haven't a clue what else they'd want after 6-7 runs.
I dropped pressure 3x - 21-18-15.
Launching at low rpm's too, 1500, 1200, 1000.

Maybe I need to ease into it more and not stab the gas, lol.

[quote=OUTATIME GTA;4302229]Hey Marc - Since my thread here is pretty much done, tell us what happened at Force Fed. $$ well spent?[/quote

I took it in for to find /fix a stumble at 3500-4500 rpms in 1st gear. Everything else about the car I was happy with.
The first thing they wanted to do was perform a compression/leakdown test, ($90), then they wrote it up for $450 of dyno tuning (3 hrs @ 150). So before as I dropped off the car it was $550.
The next day they called me and said the person that set up the initial tune is dumb azz, (the original tuner works w/ Accel directley).
They said that in order to continue they wanted to re-configure the entire VE table, then get back to the tunning, (add another $450).
A week later they said come get it then engine is has a problem and theres nothing else they can do. When I showed up they handed me an invoice for $1250. I dont know where the extra $300 came from, but it wasnt discussed or authorized by me. They said my engine had head gasket failure.
When we got it back to the shop, we checked the radiator & found a slight layer of alumi-seal floating on top of the coolant. (we added this to the cooling system to seal a couple of head studs. We dont run too much coolant, so the water isnt green, its a light gray/green. The engine oil looked perfect.
They seemed to be proud of the fact that they corrected the cold start issue, but now then engine wont stall past 2000 rpms, and the engine struggles to rev up to 6000 rpms, and has a flat spot at 2000 rpms.
To ad insult to injury, and to show they didnt listen to anything I said, the invoice says 91 Camaro.
In additon to disputing the charges, I will be filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair so this doesnt happen to anybody else.
The only reason I took it to him was to avoid hauling my car up to Placerville where it was originally tuned. So Monday I will be hauling it to Placerville & dropping it off, in hopes of having it ready by the 17th.
Final words regarding FFP. stay away, run, dont walk. Its not his personality, he just doesnt care about his customers, even when they're spending $1250 on HIS reccomendations. its just bad business!

What were your 60's on those runs w/ the pressure adjustments.

I think those tires like at about 15-16 lbs, ask Bennie what he runs em at.
I'd say with you car, when the last yellow comes on, Stand on it. I dont think you car will overpower those tires at 15psi. I will have a compressor on the on the trailer if you want to play with the pressure.

Like I said Bennie wasnt happy w/ those tires until his 2nd or 3rd time out.

Del is running drag radial. I'm running the M/T ET streets. We'll figure it out this coming GTG/grudge fest.

Is that what I'm running??? **** my head is till spinning from FFP.
Del, if you're running the same tire as me, (MT drag radial) I'd say start at 15-17 psi......

I was kind of figuring it would not be a good situation. Sorry to hear that for you, but not too surprised. It was very apparent to me the first time I walked in there (5+ years ago) he had minimal interest in the 3rd gen and his attitude spoke for itself. They have welded a couple things for me in the past, but that's the extent of the work I'd allow.

The M/T I have are the et street radial (drag radial) a little more street friendly, confusing name, but definitely different than what Bennie and probably you are using, et streets.

Mine:

Bennie's:

They were all horrible, 2.2-2.3, regardless of pressure.
I always leave on the last yellow and was all over the place when I stood on it.

I've read several forums on them and it appears they do like a 5-7 second burnout w/pressure varying from 15-20. Every car is different and I know with those 17's, the sidewall is just not very large. Thanks for any tips though guys, it was pretty frustrating. Hope to get out again another Wednesday before 10-17 gtg.

are you going to try and use a smaller wheel with the drag radials at the track then?
