Good luck passing smog

The guy that just tested my GTA said they lowered the pass numbers 30% Dec 1, 2011. Looks like he was right.

Here are the pass numbers from Jan 2010
AT 15 mph AT 25 mph
HC CO NO HC CO NO
108 0.71 767 83 0.58 706

Here are the new numbers
76 0.50 537 58 0.40 494

I failed both HCs and the 15mph NO. I would have passed with flying colors at the old numbers.

I've heard of this silly smog ritual. Bummer to those needing to pass it.

Re: Good luck passing smog

If my car emits the same as it did at the last test (10/29/2010), I'd still smack those numbers down:

Results last test- 26, .01, 91; 19, .03, 35.

Of course, I did just jinx myself.

The only thing that was different then, than my current sig, is the torque converter.

But, when I test again 10/2012, I could be looking at tighter yet target numbers.

Bill

its achievable, mostly im sure has to do with the fact they want people to replace their cats more often.

yet they make the cat manufacturers of universal converters give a 5 year 50k mile warranty?

that does not make sense to me. That warranty is a cop out. I am kind of looking forward to seeing if they even stick to it. because in thier eyes a converter should last 5 years no problem unless the car is running bad. which then it wouldnt be covered. It's all BS. I hate this state.

Holy she-ite. I just barely passed the end of August. How much lower will they go 2 years from now?

Thanks for the update injdinjn. Please let us know what you had to do on your car to pass these new specs.

Damn Bill,
I thought mine were good....

Just checked my last #s

10 .00 199 11 .00 200

It pays to do things right.
A good tuner helps.

This sucks. Figures that politicians would figure out a way that makes the air cleaner and polutes the land fills and costs us more money.

Re: Good luck passing smog

Matched combos can pass very cleanly. Mine passed the second smog with lower numbers than it did when the combo was brand new. Not too worried about it.

Re: Good luck passing smog

Wow, mine is coming in August. How would we start something about this smog mess, like : My car was designed to pass required emissions for 1988, and runs fine, it is not designed to pass your more strengent emission requirements & should not be expected to.(it was not designed to) If it passes for what it was designed for, it should be left alone, and after it is 20 (25 or what ever) years old it should be exempt (reinstating rolling year rule, that was repealed). AND it gets them out of my damn pockets for the smog check !!
I realize the politicians don't give a damn about us, or our cars, but we should remind them WHO voted them into the office, and WHO can vote them OUT as well.
