MPG
Some of you seen my facebook comment. I did a MPG check on my camaro today and got 9.5 mpg almost all highway driving.
Better then the 4mpg I got when I played with megasquirt.
This was doing 65-70mph with my rpm's partying around 3500 the whole trip. 40 miles round trip.
Can't wait till I can start shopping for a transmission replacement. Collaborating with a friend I think a 4L80E with controller wouldnt be a bad idea. That or a T56. But who wants to go breaking stock ten bolts, right?

Re: MPG
Sweet ride! I would go with the T56 if you want better MPG. Then again, I am partial to sticks.
3,500 is a lot of RPMs on the highway and the T56 has overdrive. The 4L80E looks sweet too if you want auto, but I don't know if it has an overdrive gear.

Re: MPG
I think a built 4l80E with overdrive AND lockup will be my future. A built T56 for my power level can't be justified into my budget for what it costs plus the clutch to hold the power.

Im hunting for a used GV OD unit now myself.
Hows that HP EFI doing? any dyno time on the ride with it? or just all street stuff?

Re: MPG
the Holley HP efi has been great. No dyno time, all street time but its been real good. I need to get off my lazy *** and do some fine tuning but the self tuning feature has made this car a real breeze to drive. I need to tweak the hot start fueling and hot start fuel enrich and then I think I will be set. I also wanted to play with my cruising AFR to squeeze out some more MPG.

Re: MPG
I like the 4l80E idea. I am partial to automatics. And maybe you should look into getting a vigilante stall converter. They act pretty tame under normal driving and really only stall out under harder acceleration.

Re: MPG
Yeah a manual valve body would be cool. I plan on doing that to the Dodge myself. especially the megashifter allows for easy up shifts and down shifts.

Thats what I have, I love the b&m megashifter. Someday I am going to shorten the handle on it. Looks a little funny sitting so high in my manual shift boot.

Re: MPG
well where it mounts to the floor it is as far back as it can go. But when I upshift/downshift with the shifter the one part comes up and kicks the plastic. which then causes the front plate mounting bolts to come out being that the holes there are only for looks and do not really hold anything down. I am really thinking about making some sort of brushed aluminum console cover for it at some point.

Re: MPG
I had the same issue and resolved it with a dremel. I narrowed down the ratcheting tooth as little as possible while still working as a stop and I cut the metal brace and some plastic to allow clearance up into my boot. Works like a charm and unnoticeable from inside looking at it.

Re: MPG
Now that I am home from work I can emphasize more on the hatred for 700r4's.
So the link is to a level 10 high horsepower? No guaranteed numbers? No thanks. I blew through my stock 700, a rebuilt 700 and a built B&M 700. I am done with those relying on a properly-tensioned-cable-to-not-blow-up transmission. Only thing I Miss is overdrive. A more modern 4L80E loosely designed around the well known strong TH400 sounds like a lot better option, if I kept it electronic then that would be even sweeter with programmable shift points. If I go manual valve body then I still would feel secure with a better built transmission with 20 years of technological improvement behind it.
PLUS! the gear ratio is much nicer in the 4L80E

Well it isnt that hard to dial in the TV cable...but I agree with the 4L80E. Just go that route and be done.

Re: MPG
The 700 Was a phenominal new tranny design upgrade that melded perfectly with EFI and small block engines. Anybody remember their parents having to get the early 200's rebuilt after only 60k miles? But they never where designed to deal with the Big Block torque that's hitting Travis's rear tires at the starting line launch now, along with the dead blow hit of each shift. Remember, he's in the 10 second range on street tires at the track.
With the new computer 4L80E trans, he eliminates not only his weakest link at high rpm shifts, but he will even gain better shift timing consistency. For those who like to win on the 1/4 mile; The more concistancy = Trophies. Trophies are Good. Lotz of trophies suggests you're a winner. Girls like winners. So do their Moms. Therefore, if you've always wanted to do a mother & daughter tag team, don't use a 700r transmission.

TraviZ I am guessing you never put in my 3.08 rear we traded? I'm all swaped with your old 3.42 rear with my 19" rear 18" front Corvette wheels. I would post some picks, but I never can get this site to do it!

Re: MPG
Okay, so I got carried away with the smart *** part (can u tell i got thrown out of class a lot as a child?), but the REAL POINT is that the 700r came from the 200 which was only designed for lightweight midsize carz. The 700R has done exceptionally well in our 3rd gens, given that lots of us have started out with high mileage 20 year old versions with the original trans, still untouched, waiting for us to add up to 30 more hp and start shearing the sun-gear and other parts.
It's like the great looking mother who's taken REALLY good care of her self and has the... Oh, never mind (botox and all that).
This new series of automatics is supposed to be designed for Heavy Duty size carz & Pickups with the added benefit of being computer controlled for the government mileage issues.
What Travis has done is simply-truelly- amazing, and he has my TOTAL respect. I was fortunate enough to see that tramp steamer he's driving when he was still attempting to figure out how to strip the paint out of the engine compartment and everything was a real mess. He has more determination then most and it's great to see his efforts come to life. He's just kept at it and kept at it. It's been like watching the Camaro Terminator!!!

He's just always had such a quick, wicked sense of humor and you gotta admire his learning curve. In the old days, he really kept this thread alive when there was nothing going on and it was dead boring. He was just so funny all jacked up on caffiene (or whatever it was)!
