Central Valley Brake Shops
Hey guys,
Does anyone know of a local shop (I'm from Tracy) that installs aftermarket brakes? I want to upgrade the stock '82-'88 J65 four wheel disk set up that I have on my car now. I am looking at getting a front 1LE style system and a '89-'92 PBR style rear system.

Re: Central Valley Brake Shops
Did you ever find a shop? Sounds like you may need to stop by a couple of the hot-rod builders and ask for suggestions. More and more, traditional shops will not install aftermarket stuff, such as our brake conversion items, unless it's something the shop/dealer normally carries. If they can't guarentee it, then they don't like to assume the liability if something goes wrong. In addition, he can't mark up the part for profit if the customer brings it along. (which I'm sure you already knew the above)......

Re: Central Valley Brake Shops
No I didn't find a shop yet. I decided that I wanted to do the brake upgrade and rebuilding my rear end at once. I have got most of the parts that I need to rebuilt my borg warner 9bolt rear and change gears from my 2.77's to 3.27's.
Upgrading the brakes and getting all the parts that I want may be more of a challenge. I think I am also going to have to change my proportioning valve and upgrade all the lines to. Just get everything changed at once.
I'm also trying to see where I can get the lowest price on the brake set up that I want. I was looking at the 1LE front brake kit. Baer brakes also has a kit that has the same 12'' rotors and dual piston calipers as the 1LE kit as well. For the rear I want the '89-'92 PBR 11'' rotor kit. Baer has a kit for that to that I noticed.
Yeah if you know of a good rear end or brake shop let me know. I'll need a good shop to install the rear end parts that I have. I may be better off going to a speed shop to buy the upgraded brakes (and all the associated components) and have them installed.

Re: Central Valley Brake Shops
An LS1 or C5 would be cheaper. 1LE stuff cost $$$ and is harder to find.

Re: Central Valley Brake Shops
The 1LE stuff isn't to hard to find. There are companies that sell most of the components but you are right they are more expensive. Yeah I'll have to look in to the C5 brake upgrade kits too. From what I have read online people are happy with them.
