It only took 5 years...

But I FINALLY got through the bureaucratic BS, got all the necessary papers together, passed a smog test and got tags. She is finally legit.

Re: It only took 5 years...

Thanks guys. I've already put 100 miles on the car. It now has 43k and some change on the clock.

UnderCover, you bet I'll be out there. I'm just bummed I couldn't make it happen for Santa Cruz.

Neagan, Getting all the paperwork showing that I am the conservator for my father's estate and transferred was the big hangup. It's all good now.

Re: It only took 5 years...

It's just great that the pendulum finally swung and it's awake & drinkin' morning coffee again.

It just amazes me still how much effort in time, money, and patience these little horsepower tramps suck-up year after year. That's why I've been convinced for years now that the 3rd Gen's will end up as being a close 2nd in the collector car market 3 or 4 days after the last of us finally drops dead: -They were never meant to last longer than 10 years of age or 100 thousand miles/It's the lightest and most airodynamic version of all the Caymarrows/They're extremely expensive to rebuild, thus they went to the wrecking yards by the hundreds of thousands (especially the past 5 years)/ The TPI engine was a ground breaking change in engine performance & design. And I'm sure there's more.
Now that people are starting to reinvest back in the collector car market this year, it should be interesting to see if our 3rd Gen retail prices start to improve. It's really sad to throw in so much money to upgrade the suspension, drivetrain, and the thousands they suck up diagnostic repairs of all the sensors! and to have 'em sell for way under the price of a paint job & wheels.
Well there was an unasked for rant..... Nitro-Nicky @ Night

Re: It only took 5 years...

I know what you mean. I've seen 3rd gens with LS swaps and lots of money thrown at suspension and other upgrades that sell for less than the cost of the engine swap. I'd be money ahead to buy a "done" car, but wheres the fun in that?

I also know what you mean about them hitting the junk yards by the dozen. I work at pick n pull in Windsor and they come in every week. some in good shape and some are pretty trashed. its sad.

Re: It only took 5 years...

Exactly True. And yes, I've been surprised at the level of quality of the 3rd Gens that have been hitting your yard the past 6 months. It used to be that Windsor had the worst ones and the fewest of the Pluck & Chucks (compared to the rest of the Sacto area). Obviously we've met. Hope I've been a polite customer when there!

Neagan, I'm not good with names. I remember faces and what that person drives. haha.

Undercover, I post on the norcal third gens FB page when something good comes into the yard. I cant believe how quickly the thirdgen firebirds and camaros get stripped.

Re: It only took 5 years...

So I've been driving it for a little over a week now and I was starting to not like the car until i filled the tank and calculated a combined 18 mpg which is wayyy better than my truck.

Re: It only took 5 years...

I'm 6'5. I'm practically laying down when driving the car just to fit.If the car had t-tops I think I'd have more head room.

seriously though this car is a boat load of fun. I just need to mount a seat closer to the floorpan. Ill deal with the cramped interior for the massive improvement in fuel mileage. The camaro is also easier to keep sideways leaving work.

Re: It only took 5 years...

You're in a good area for selling the bugzilla, although I've heard that people have had really good luck selling items like '29 Chevy's at the Pleasanton Fairground's Car Shows out in the parking lot (depending on how much is already done). Have you found any really good Rod & Custom shops in North Sonoma County's Hot-Rod culture? I've got to find a shop to wire up the HVAC system, rebuild the front end, and sort out a couple wiring issues on my newly aquired 1960 El Camino.
I'm always sad to hear that someone has to sell a an existing hot hod to finish one of ours. Good luck though!

Re: It only took 5 years...

I called up a friend of mine who has been after the VW for a couple of years now and he jumped at the chance to buy it. I even got enough for it that I wont have to sell the '29 (yet). I'ts going to Oregon. perfect place for a car with a giant hole in the roof...

As for shops for your '60... I dont know of any shops that I would recommend to someone, but I'll ask around.
