Update on the Pro/am
A guy from Nebraska is coming tommorow to pick the car up for 3grand.
I might be getting out of third gens.
There might be a corvette in my future...
I'd still plan to be a part of the club if thats cool with you.
Nothing is set in stone, but so far everything is turning towards a Vette. (85) possibly.

I just gotta throw my two cents out there at cha. I think corvettes are cool, but the whole car was designed around a person with money. The cars are hard to work on, and parts can be much more expensive just because its for a vette. Take a look at exhaust kits for example. The extra cost in insurance alone will take any extra cash you may have, that could have gone to mods on a 3gen. I also have to wonder what type of jenked out c4 are you going to get with 3k? If you are going to finance a car, get a 3gen so at least you can afford to have fun with it.
Dont leave us man! Think long and hard on this one.

Sasa, those C4 corvettes have the same (pretty much) engine as Camaro/Firebirds. You will have cheaper insurance, parts will be cheaper and more abundant, tires will be less expensive (especially if you like to turn them into smoke), and plus, you like 3rd gens! My buddy had a 84 w/ the crossfire injection and he was broke down all the time.
Plus, C4s arn't any better in the snow! Just my opinion FWIW!

Sorry guys, I was just kidding about the vette. I was going to get a trans am with a new motor and tranny, but the guy who was gonna buy my car bailed out on me.
Now, I hate third gens and I don't plan on getting another one.
They have no resale value and I am getting no 8K that I put in it back. I did not know this when I bought the car and now I am regreting it.
Screw this, I just might go with a vette. Its a 350 TPI and it has 90k original and no its not 3000 either. I am borrowing some money for it.
I was joking before, trying to throw you off and than show up with a trans am thats all pimped out. Now, I am pissed. Nobody wants to buy my car and I truly don't see a third gen in my future.
See ya.

No matter what car you buy and put money into, you will very rarely get your money back out. Ask anyone else here on the boards, and 90% couldn't get what they have in theirs back out. Take the money you were going to borrow and invest into the 8k you already have into the pro/am, That way you don't lose that 8k.

I did not know that 305's were Toilet bowl engines.
I did not know that 2500 for a third gen is a great price (excelent condition if I may add).
I didn't know that 3000 I paid for the car was waaaaaay too much.
Now, I am barely getting 2800 offers and I seriously belive that even that is too much.
Borrowing money, on the other hand is harder. I listened to my parents and I did not get a credit card. My parents don't want to cosign for me to borrow money unless its for another car. I can't get a loan or anything unless I have it cosinged. So, I am stuck with a ****ty car that is the Pro/am. Toilet bowl injection and a subpar engine thats a weak excuse for a daily driver. Never again will I have a 305. Never again will I **** around with fuel injection.
The only way that I'll have a third gen is with a carbed 350 and thats pushing it cuz right now I hate third gens. And I still hate mustangs though (don't get your hopes up Mike).

Hey Sasa, I just have to chime in real quick here - the fact that it's a thirdgen really doesn't have anything to do with it - it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that you'll never recoup the money that you put into a car (unless you're named Foose). Even the guys who find the big-block Mopars, or the early 'Vettes find that they have to drop 10 or 15 grand into rust or frame repair, or finding oddball trim parts, or stupid crap like that.
Bottom line is, you never think of a car as an investment - unless you're just talking about investing your time & your spirit into it. You build the car you want because you're creating your vision of what it should be, because you're making it yours - And if you get that right, then it's worth all of the money, time & frustration you've poured into it.

ok sasa ole boy time for a chat, i dont know what your looking at maybe in the condition your is in which to my recall wasnt too bad the prices of thirdgens have gone through the roof, i see decent tg's rolling around for 5k+ all the time, problem is no one knows what a thirdgen is worth, 2nd of all yea the 305's are not impressive, the tbi setup wasnt the greatest idea in the world but look what i've done bro, add a few ci's and really get into it internally and pick a good combo and you can make good power, theres been quite a few lt1 vettes and 90+ stangs that have been shown the tails in the last few weeks and i'm running on a stock tune, i got another 25 hp+ atleast locked up in the tuning.....In reality you havent really gotten heavily into your motor, you are running bolt ons the harsh reality there is bolt ons do not make an impressive car, tpi setup has its flaws just like the tbi's do, but because on tgo the tpi population out weighs the tbi no one puts the emphasis on tpi problems, it was a major flawed system, it can be improved but still has kinks like everything else
AS for the resale, like everyone else said you will never get out of what you have into, my car sits right now as is with 20k+ into it, if i turned around and decided to sell it i could get 18 since there is one guy that keeps bugging me about it but 18K is all his budget alots for, i could have taken it and ran but the car has sentimental value to me for reasons most are aware, this winter its getting a blower, a bit of squeeze and more than likely a cage, on top of the rearend and tranny this summer and thats just the big stuff......
I think you need to find a good job bro, 3k wont buy you fast, and **** buying fast like a vette or something, thats a store bought hot rod, i'd more than gladly put my built thirdgen that i have done everything too up against a yuppie in a vette anyday, mine hasnt let me down yet.....
Heres some inspiration for you, its your call but it sound slike your minds pretty much made up as of now

Man, if I had 3K I would have a transam tommorow with new engine and borgwarner 5 speed. I just don't have it.
I am glad your car is fine Paul, and I am proud of you. You do third gens proud. However, I will never try to mess with fuel injection on my next car. I was naive about my car and now I am paying for it.
Lets put it this way.
Second time around Sasa know what to do and what to get. My 79 would blow any mustang away including cobras. She was tricked out with a wild cam performance heads and a big block. I am really sad that I sold that car. It was a carb and it ran like a champ. Never left me anywhere. Than I downgrade to a 305 and you can imagine why the frustration.
Anyone, give me 3K and I will show up with a bad *** third gen. Its too bad that I learn that too late.
After much thinking and talking to my parents I realized that they are not on my side. My dad wants me to get a corolla and my stepmom already made plans for me to drive some beater for 500 bucks. It just aint happening. I realized that a third gen is the car for me, but only carbed one this time.
And guys I know I am loosing money, but I did not know that I would go under the price that I paid for the car when it was stock. I sold my 79 for 4K and I paid 2K for it.
Do you see where I am coming from??
Its time for a new page and a new begining.

ok first off like it was said earlier cars very seldom appriciate but usually depericiate. And why all the hatered aginst fuel injection? I can understand your frustration but wishing for a carb is like wishing computers were never invented.

Frustration brother, nothing really wrong per say. I am just frustrated.
I kinda wish for a carb just because it would be easier to tune.
I really don't hate third gens. I realized that I know the most about these cars and i do wish to drive a carbed car. Personal choice, cheapest as well.
Yea. I calmed down a bit and I have a cool head on my shoulders now.
You will see me in a trans/am. I just can't seem to stay away from firebirds. Camaros are great, but the flaming bird is the ****.
Look for my avatar change very soon.
