Help

Hey guys, I posted on the exhaust and TBI boards but would like to hear from any local guys too. I just finished putting edelbrock emission headers on the RS. I had to eliminated the cat and the rest of the exhaust is straight piped out the back with 3 inch tips, sounds great. BUT, I just took it out for the first time and when I get on it the engine cuts out and the check engine light flashes, It only flashes and cuts out over 3k rpm though. Idles and starts great, runs awsome up to 3000-3500 then does its crap. I installed a new O2 sensor when I installed the header, an open air element is the only other mod besides exhaust. Fresh tune up too.

Yes the air cleaner has been on since August. I just checked and no computer codes were stored either. Thanks

When putting in the headers the only stuff that could/should have been messed with is the O2, and spark plug wires. It doesn't fit your description, but you may double check the condition of your wires. I burned two sets of MSDs before I got the MSD heat wrap, and routing correct. The #8, and #6 are my little "burners". I can't believe the computer did not set a code, if the check engine was on and flashing.... just doesn't make sense? I really would double check your wires though!!!

The computer should have stored some codes. When the SES light starts to go off, those are "hard" codes, meaning whatever is failing is doing it at that very instant. Run it again and see if any more codes are stored in the computer.

How about the ground on the back of your block.

This would have sounded awsome if I did not know what happened. However, Geret figured it out.

Yeah when you delete the cat, you have to remember the air tube and where it mounts.

Now he only gets the engine light when cruising on the highway, but we all know why that is. Poluter!

Ha ha very good Sasa! Yes the check engine light was flashing and the engine was cutting out because I did not pt the nut back onto the ground stud at the back of the engine block because I did not put the cat air tube back on . So one little overlooked nut caused all the problems. It runs awsome now though.

Thank you all for your help though, even though there's no help for stupid at least you all tried!

Where is the ground stud located on the engine block? My engine is cutting out, I've lost horsepower, my TPI 305 ran a 16.8 ET before I lost horsepower, and the cat has been gutted ever since I purchased the car. Maybe this is my culprit.
