Re: Colorado Roll Call.
Hello again members! I was here awhile back when I got ahold of
a 86 v6 camaro. Well I sold that and missed it. Well now I got me an 85
with a 305. I know its no z28 or iroc but I can buy the ground effects seperately.
It is an auto. It does have fenders crashed and bumper broken. But hey that's a cheap fix!
The interior is in need of some help but not to much.
The car is ugly but I love it. I will restore the car bit by bit.
As soon as it starts to look more like a z28 or iroc il move on to the engine.

Well I went to take my emissions test today and my car failed.
They said it was running way to rich. Said I need to go to a mechanic
To find the issue and get it fixed. Bad part is I can't afford a Mechanic
So I guess I have to get rid of the car.

You don't need to go to a mechanic. You can document on the form what you did to correct the problem. It doesn't have to be signed off by a mechanic when you take it back.

When did they start doing emissions again? I haven't done one in the last 5 years I've owned my thirdgen. Or are classics going to be passed over on this?I'm damn positive I'll fail if I get tested

Re: Colorado Roll Call.
nowerelsetoroam, Dude you do not need a mechanic depending on your own ability. It may take several attempts/repairs to get the vehicle passing, but you can do it. It might be easiest to have one of the ACC approved repair shops perform the diagnositic and you make the repairs to save some money.
I would check the catalytic converter... Usually by this time in a cars life the catalytic converter is weak at best. You can measure the inlet and outlet temps of the catalytic converter to get an idea if it is lighting up. Outlet should be hotter. If the two temps are near identical it is not working. I would say 40-50% of the emissions failures I see can be cleaned up enough with a new CA approved catalytic converter.

Re: Colorado Roll Call.
I'm going to try that. Il get a diagnostic test on it and repair it myself
And hope it passes. If not I got someone I can.register it with. Is it every two years I.need an emissions test for my car or every one?

Hey guys, I'm back. (Can't believe I haven't been on TGO since March of 2010...!)
Doesn't look like a whole lot's changed around here (which is kind of nice in a way)...
BIG thanks to five7kid & JT for helping me get back on here tonight.

Re: Colorado Roll Call.
These emissions are pissing me off lol but anyway
I finally moved into a new place with a garage and figured
Why not put it the 355 I built! But I'm stuck on what transmission
To use. The motor I built should be pushing up to 400hp.
Now the car has a 700r4 I can re use. I also got a th350 that needa rebuilt
Or a 4l60e. I'm not sure which would be better for street/strip use.
The car will have 4:10 gears. But I don't drive far distances at high speeds at all.
So should I go with rebuilt 350 or use the 700/rebuild it or leave it as is?

I've just been looking and on some forums people say
The 700 won't hold up and on some do. I'm guessing with a decent rebuild
And a 3000-3500 stall itd be ok! It's that pesky rear end that's gona
Need some upgrading. Only other thing I'm stuck on
Is how do I select what carb to go.with

Re: Colorado Roll Call.
I need some quick help. I've looked but can't seem to find the info I need.
I just swapped in my 355 into my camaro.
But what I'm trying to do is start up the motor without
The alternator. Rite now I'm stuck on wiring a Mallory electronic
Distributor whick will not spark.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

Re: Colorado Roll Call.
HAHAHAHAHA. are you serious? You need an alternator to keep the electronics going. Once the car turns on, it quickly drains the battery. You also need to put the specifics of your Camaro in order to help you out. It's like if I say "I need help with my BBQ grill, it won't start"!! Well is it propane, charcoal, no matches, no lighter, spark igniter don't work? Catch my drift? Your avatar info says 2.8 but you just dropped a 355. Is it EFI or carb? ECM or no ECM???

I'm not trying to be mean or anythimg like that. I assume you had a v6. So if you dropped a 355, it's gotta be a v8. So with that said, your v6 ECM won't run your v8. But I don't know the whole scenario because I have an v8 IROC.

Re: Colorado Roll Call.
Aaahhhhhh. Ok. So is your v8 EFI? When my alternator gave out, my Expedition ran for about 5 minutes and then the gauges went crazy and the SUV died. But I think this thread should be taken to the "general engines" thread. You will get better help there. As it is, this topic is hijacked the CO roll call. Just a heads up man.

Well I spent nearly all day trying to get this 355. To start and I can't.
I tried everything and can't get. So its obvious I shouldnt be a car guy.
So I'm selling it. I don't have the patience for this stuff.

Wow wow wow wow!!!! Lets not make any drastic moves. Lets begin. What type of ECM do you have? 7156 (MAF) or the later type (Speed Density)? TPI or TBI or Carb? What dizzy model? What MemCal?
