Non third-gen problem (Updated)

Ok I've got a major problem here.. My mom's 98 blazer.. She had been driving it since winter started with really really bad rear brakes. I replaced the front and rear pads and rotors. Then I had to go back and replace the e-brake shoes. The rear rotors are half rotors half drums, they've got the standard disc brake caliper and then a horseshoe shaped e-brake shoe inside the rotor. I replaced them and thought I was done, then I test drove it tonight and the driver's side rear is making a really bad squeaking noise.. When I turned around to come back it started to rattle BAD. Hard to describe the sound but if anyone has ever driven on a highway with the ridges on the shoulder (to keep sleepy truckers on the road) it sounds like I'm driving on one of those ridges.. I haven't taken it apart again (it's too late) but anyone know what I should do? I think the squeaking is coming from the rotor debris guards rubbing on the rotors but that rattling really disturbs me. Any clues? Hope someone can help. My parent's can't afford to take it to a shop that's why I'm doing the brakes.. I've done brakes on 3 other vehicles (my T/A, the Ford F-150 my dad gave me, and my friend's 84 Delta 88) and I've never had problems with them.. This is the first time I've had any problems after doing a brake job.. Need some advice.. Thanks

Ok, took it all apart again. There's nothing that's rubbing that has to do with the brakes.. I took off the rotors and everything, put it in drive, and it's still squeeking bad. So, it's coming from the axle. No big deal, still has 1 month left on the warranty, so the dealership said it's covered. Woo hoo, not my problem anymore Now the dealership can f*ck with it.

Well we got the Blazer back a few days ago just figured I'd let anyone who cares know what happened.. As I said I did a complete brake job and just couldn't figure out the problem. Took it to the dealer because the drivetrain is under warranty and in fact the pinion seal went out and the differential overheated big time, some of the pinion teeth were ground off (which caused all that noise). However the dealership also tried to tell me it was the rotors I had just put on there, making some squeeking.. They tried to tell me they were installed correctly but because they're aftermarket they didn't fit right and were rubbing on the debris guards. So I said fine then put your Chevy rotors on the rear and let's see what happens (this is before they rebuilt the rearend). They asked me to come over there in the morning so I did. It just so happened that the kind TRAINED MECHANICS THAT WORK IN THE F*CKING DEALERSHIP- left the hood up overnight and the hood light drained the battery. So, they couldn't turn the vehicle on and prove that the rotors did in fact stop the noise. (The rearend still hadn't been rebuilt at this point). For all I know, they could have been pullin the wool over my eyes. They showed me the rotors I had put on there and I did not see any evidence of any rubbing on them. No scratches, not even any heat discoloration.. So they probably did pull some BS but oh well.. My parents ended up paying 600 bucks for the work they did, not to mention the 350 they had already spent for the new rotors and pads and shoes for the brake job I just did.. But, without that warranty the rear end rebuild would have been 1,350 bucks..

Actually,
to be honest with you......I have a 98 chevy truck and after 20 minutes the computer turns off the hood light. Just so you know they could have left the hood up forever and it shouldn't have happened. Maybe my S10 is different than yours though.

I still think you got hosed on paying for different rotors and pads, I wouldn't have payed for them.

MOTHERF|_|CKER I totally forgot about that! You're right the comp does turn that stuff off after 20 minutes.... Well like I said it's not my Blazer and my dad was the one who told me to tell them to put their dumb *** rotors on it if they were so confident that was the squeeking... They just replaced the rear rotors, not the pads too. Those are brand new... And it's not like I could have told them to rebuild the rear end before I authorized them to replace the rotors.. Even though I told the stupid f*ckers when I brought it in, they didn't discover the rear end problem until after they test drove the vehicle with the new rotors on..

i wouldn't pay for parts that weren't broken....I would have asked for the "better GM" rotors to be removed if they weren't the problem.....if it ain't broke....don't fix it lol

Don't worry, my mom has a durango with the extended warranty she paid $$$$$$$$ for .....and they try to get her to pay for all this stuff all the time....it's the dealerships job to make money, it's the consumer's job to be imformed on what they don't have to pay for and what should be covered.

Well my dad wouldn't listen to me when I told him those guys were full of **** (then it got into a big heated argument). He said (at the time when they claimed it was the rotors) "I'd rather go with the less expensive solution, even though they're telling me one thing and you're telling me another" well.. Then I did tell him to tell them to put the rotors I had put on back on after they did the rear end, and he said he's too tired of putting up with the BS and wanted the car back so -=shrug=- I tried.. My dad is stubborn. It's his money, not mine.. Oh well.
