8 year old gets bitten by the 3rd gen bug

I pulled my Formula out of storage last night with my 8 year old nephew and as took off the car cover to show him what was underneath and he started jumping up and down as I slowly peeled the cover away. I did this slowly because I wanted to see the automotive curves that I missed so much. The car looked awesome. He stood in front of the car with a shoulders-width stance knees slightly bent almost as if he was bracing himself from falling over. Then I said "check this out" and I flipped on the headlights... He instantly grinned from ear to ear and gave me the double thumbs up as the lights instantly locked upright. With a smile he says "coool".

It was actually a Camaro's interior that I fell in love with... The dash seemed sooo wide.

Gettin sideways was another reason I liked em.

Transmission: Caged hamster that runs really fast
Axle/Gears: They are round, I know that much
I was like 8 or so when I was playing with my neighbor and his uncle pulls up in that blue color on a late 80's IROC with the hood louvers and everything. I thought it was the coolest car I had ever seen, and now here i am today!!

I never had any real epiphany;s when I was a kid.

Loved G-bodes with the 442 and H/O's and the MC SS and especially the Buick Turbo's

I actually hated thirdgens and I still think they are garbage in some aspects to G bodies :-) (yeah I know so sue me, but full frames do last better in the long run so there, and I can fit 4 people and have a trunk)

Looking for a Turbo Regal to replace my wrecked 442, I happened along my TTA. The F-bodies are still the cheapest bang for the buck in buying a car that handles and scoots out okay right out of the box.

That led into the Formula, then the GTA too.

I shopped and shopped and bought the nicest I could afford.

My misguided route into the land of thirdgens.

In my formative car years I was always a GM man, I always will be, and I'm damned proud to say I've never owned a foreign car and I'm planning on never owning one.

my nephew fell in love with my second thirdgen. (I've owned four now.) It was a POS '85 V6 sport coupe that was teal with black interior. I told him when he got old enough to drive it would be his.

unfortunately, the engine blew after 200K miles and I junked it.

So, about a year and a half ago I bought a 91 RS with the 305 tbi...teal with black interior. when he saw it he started begging me to keep it for him. since I told him the other one was his, I decided that I would replace it with this one.

Last summer while he was out of school we rebuilt the engine with 416 heads, 1.6 rockers, an LT1 cam, "ultimate tbi" mods, and a bunch of chrome and flat black paint. He is stoked to have the car. he gets his permit in the fall.

we still need to get into chip burning to tune it. once we get it roadworthy, I gotta call jay to get some floor pans repaired and possibly paint. (questioning the paint cause I figure it will get wrecked before too long)

It has been a blast teaching him how to do some work to the car. Especially since he knows the car will be his.
