"My Story" is I'm almost 50, grew up raised a fan of Firebirds. My father had a 67 when he was a kid, and now has a convertible 67 that is fully restored factory original, which he has shown for 30 years. I myself got my interest growing up in the 70's with, of course, Smokey and the Bandit. My first TA was a 1979, and I ended up with 2 of them as a teenager, making one nice car out of the 2. Sold that for a 1970 Dodge Challenger TA, which I never finished. Fresh out of high school I saw my first GTA at a local Pontiac dealer. It was a 1988 metallic red with a tan interior. I thought I was rich with all my graduation money, lol. Got a loan, bought the car. I thought I was pretty damn cool. Then in about 6 months the insurance bills and car payments caught up to me, lol. Had to sell the car and get practical. Finally now, 30 years later, I bought my current one on a whim and am enjoying fixing her up.
I've really enjoyed chatting with the folks I've met here and all of the help that's been offered, as far as information and parts. Looking forward to enjoying my car and getting to know more of you. Thanks,
PJ

Yes I remember cruising Broadway. As we enter the first month now of 2023, I was searching this topic and found this thread. For teens from Gary, Merrillville, Hobart, and Griffith it was nomenclature to say "Let's go cruising" or "we're cruising tonight, etc and everyone knew you meant you were going to Broadway, in a car usually with friends, or even by yourself, to cruise up and down Broadway to meet members of the opposite sex and hopefully end up dating or just to hang out. Cruising Broadway was going on back in the 60's and 70's as well. In the mid and then later 1980's, when I was cruising, we would cruise from McDonald's on the East side of 54th & Broadway in Merrillville, down to Burger King on the East side of 47th & Broadway in Glen Park, and back, in a constant circle, dozens and dozens cars of teens, windows down, playing their favorite music cassettes blaring from their cars. You always hoped to catch a stoplight with a car of cute girls next to you so you could get them to follow you cruising if they liked you or get them stop and meet and date or go eat somewhere. Merrillville cops would show up to try to stop the lines of cars coming in and out of McDonald's parking lot until everyone came back 20 min later. Mays department store and Radio Shack was in a strip plaza on the west side of 54th & Broadway directly across from the McDonald's. Cars would line up and park along the back of the parking lot of Mays along Broadway and you would get out to walk and meet people and mingle. It seemed like someone always had a big set wooden stereo system speakers from home they would put on the roof of their car and blare music with wires from their car radios for everyone hanging out to hear as the cruisers went by. Good times, actually the best of times. It amazes me how the culture has completely changed as teens today could care less about driving and even put off getting a license as they "uber" everywhere now. Their "cruising" now is on apps like Tinder and they don't even leave the house on weekends and they "hang out" on social media instead. I would love to hear any stories from anyone who care to share from cruising Broadway.

I do miss cruise nights. I'm sure this thread will get bumped again in 4 years.
Now, I don't really cruise, but rather go to road trip events with groups instead. Few days of fun and shenanigans, then back home to the daily grind.
I think this year we'll finally have a group wiling to drive to the Dragon.
