Twitching Gauge

Ok so when I start my car the oil pressure needle goes way past 60 psi (usually normal) for awhile and then eventually reads correctly after I am in gear for like maybe 5 min or it will twitch even though I have enough oil. Lately it is reading that I have like less than 30 psi (close to the red zone) and the oil level is correct. Usually it reads a little above 30 and little less than 30 if it was at operating temperature and at idle. So what is the deal? Is it the knock sensor or something else? Please shed some light if you will, I expect it to be something little hopefully. Thanks in advance.

thanks guys- I had checked in the other boards and found pretty much what you guys said was the problem. I'll consult my chilton's. this thread can be deleted if so desired.
