flat rate for anyone in the show is the best way to go. there won't be enough cars to separate it properly. if t-shirts are to be made it's better to include them in some sort of grab-bag and up the entry fee a bit. this way everyone gets something for their money. most shows do this charging 15-20 a head and including a t-shirt with a few small things as well as a chance at a trophy. chances are most people heading out to this thing are really excited about it and will want a t-shirt and the lot, so why not? this is also an easy way to make sure everyone gets all the needed info about the show, voting segments, etc.

if your going to have an acutall show you should at least have 1st-3rd rating for both firebirds and camaros as well as your typical stock, street, modified classes (at a minimum this is only 18 trophies). if your expecting that many people it shouldn't be a problem and this way everyone can be involved and doesn't have to have alot of money or time invested to get in on the action. i know when i started i was in the street class because of my stereo and rims, winning 3rd place with all those other nice cars in the show really gave me an incentive to go forward (also, this way you don't have someone going up against your average trailer queen types) if you go this route you should explain before hand what separates you into the designated categories.

maybe best overall chevy and pontiac (these could be participant choices) or depending on the amount of cars anticipated this would be where you break down the best paint, engine, interior, etc.

throw in some fun ones like distance, sebastian bach(or your favorite 80's band) would most likely cruise in...., wouldn't be caught dead in..., best car to take a date in, etc. (this area only if high numbers were in consideration and cash would cover of course!)

if your going to have a dyno you should tack on another dollar or so and have your highest number setup for the horsepower guys. only people with serious numbers would jump on this as there is no point in giving someone anything for adding a air-foil when there going up against some nice modified engines. (depending on who plans to do this you could break it down to 305, 350, natural, forced, etc. if demand was there) i doubt someone spending 50 to dyno would mind an extra buck or two if they had a chance at a trophy of course that dollar might be more if there are only 2 people running.

impartial judging never works........it's always friends of friends in most cases and there is no way to really regulate. there is no way to judge peoples pride and joy and not upset someone. if anything you might take a few owners who either don't have their car there or who have alot of work done to their car and have them judge the oposite models (pontiac judge chevy/chevy judge pontiac). this way you get people who will know what to look for or at least won't consider their own cars.

many other things to consider but these are a good start....alot of work ahead of you guys.

With all the talk of people caravanning to the show, there's bound to be a lot of racing going on, so how about:
Most Speeding Tickets On The Way to the Nationals?
Highest MPH Over the Legal Limit?

I officially take myself out of the running for either of these right now, since i just got my license back.

Or, just throwing out ideas here, feel free to praise or reject;

The Friends of OPEC Award for Worst Fuel Mileage, on the way to the show,
Balloonfoot Award for Best Fuel Mileage,
There Needs to be some kind of an award for anyone who drives out from the West Coast nonstop, Cannonball style (excluding fuel stops, of course)
Most Rust,
An SPL/SQL competition,
Biggest Hood Scoop,
Biggest Cowl Induction Hood.

I'm sure I'll come up with a few more oddball awards before June.

I like the friends of OPEC one! Maybe for that I'll have some drive my S-10! It would win for sure if we were to base it on displacement! A 2.8 that gets like 13-14 MPG at times!

These are all great ideas, but I think there should also be a top award for best overall thirdgen, and maybe something for the best non-third gen car.

You can't do it for farthest traveled and not for fartherest driven. For those people who drive their cars across country rather then fly (and pay a lot less for travel) that isn't right. We want people to come, but what fun would it be if nobody brought cars?
One for each would only be fair.

I agree, someone coming in their car from cali, is coming almost as far as me, but their travel time will be far greater, and I.M.H.A. far more worthy of an award.

well, i dont think cali is as far away as england.. im pretty sure england is farther.. its just about a 3k one way trip for me.. the main reason im goin is just to goto something like this and i like driving.. a farthest driven *wink* award would be cool, but it kinda makes me a shoe in for it and wouldnt be fair to ppl that live closer..

I wouldn't be so sure about that, loomdog Because of the shape of the US it is almost as far for me as it is for you.
I think farthest traveled should get an award. Anyone that flys in from aross the pond deserves recognition.
