Route advise please.

I assume, looking at my map of the US, that i will be somewhere near, by coming into frederick on route 81.

What i am not sure of is the best way onto 81 from JFK in new York, I think my best bet would be to get onto 278 from shore parkway in brooklyn. i know i want to pick up 95 then turn onto 80 through new jersey then join 81 from there

is this a good way to get from 278 to 81? I dont mind a few tolls, but would prefer freeway wherever possible (I get lost quite easily)

am i right in assuming that 81 will take me right through pensylvania? it looks like that to me.

Also, can anyone recomend a resonably priced (under $75 p / night) secure motel and possibly bar about mid mid way through pensylvania on or near 81?

Any idea's for this would be greatly apprecicated. Also, are there any areas in New York / new jersey/ Pensylvania that i should particularly avoid? (i'm not crazy about driving through the bronx for example.

I apreciate any input on this.

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,

I haven't been out there in a while, I just noticed that nobody replied yet. So I pulled out my map and took a look.

I wouldn't take 81, it seems to go out of the way. Instead, I would take the 278 to I-95 and drive from New York to ***Baltimore**, pick up the belt loop (I-695), and the get on I-70 which goes strait into Fredrick.

-Jesse

**edit** I meant to say Baltimore, not Boston
