Not on the East Coast. I have nothing against it, and even drove to the East Coast for the National Gathering, however as fairness to the rest of the National, somewhere CENTRAL. No, Ohio is not central. IL would be just fine by me and I would drive out for that, however if it is held on the East Coast I will probably not make the drive again.

I also vote a big NO for Vegas. Went to a gathering there... not impressed with what the city has to offer for car gatherings. The group screwed around at LV Raceway as we where leaving and they punished the local F-body group and made everyone park outside for awhile to come, even though not a single one of us was there. There is no big empty areas to hang out at were security won't harrass you or the cops won't harass you. The traffic on the strip sucks so much after once or twice cruising it gets really boring.

Denny's house seems like the best option, but do not make it Memorial Day. Any college aged student that has to drive for more then a day will not be able to make it if it is held that early.

Do no split this into a bunch of mini regional gatherings that everyone wants to call a National Gathering.

And Mark, thanks for the great time and the plaque.

If it's in the East again, may I suggest Ocean City, Maryland. I go there for vacation almost every year and it's an awesome place. Plenty of affordable rooms and they have a huge convention center I'm sure we could park at in the huge parking lot. They have tons of go cart tracks to see who the best racer is. The boardwalk is second to none, also. They had their bike week when I was down this year and there were literally thousands of bikers there. It seemed like all the businesses cater to events like this. The only thing I'm not sure of is the proximity of a track. Just a thought.

OC is ok. But, man people complain about it being too far east now, imagine them driving to the Atlantic coast

Mark,
If you read all the posts here it seems to me that no two people will want to agree. I imagine everyone wants a location close to them and unfortunately that is not practicle. My suggestion is whoever does the show gets to chose where it is. If your going to put it on you get to chose it should not be a democratic decision.

If someone wants to "host" the show then we will have it wherever they are. We might be well off at the '04 show, have willing people put their name in a basket and pull a name to see who and where the show will be. The name drawn will be responsible for putting together everything they need, this will include but not limited to: lodging, security, getting all of the awards, sponsors, etc, they can chose a team to do their legwork, whatever it takes.

howaboutthat?

John

denny said he wanted to keep his seperate. look at the top of this page.

LFN AT U:: Okay, there was talk about making my party the Nationals but I think I'll just keep mine separate. That way, if one is too far away you can always go to the other. I'm about 40 minutes south of Chicago so I'm pretty much in the middle of the country. I'm pretty sure mine will be just as big if not bigger than the Nationals anyway. I've got three big advantages to my party as well. First of all, my party is completely free. I pay for all the food, pop, and beer. Second, I have one of the largest collections of thirdgen parts in the world so people can pick up a lot of the parts they need while they are here. Third, I'm planning on raffling off a car at my party as long as there's enough interest. I just picked up a '91 RS B4C that I plan to give away at next years party. Tickets will be $50 each and you don't have to buy one if you don't want to but I think you would have to be crazy to pass up the opportunity to own a very rare B4C car for $50. I think having two large Thirdgen parties is a good idea as long as they're at different times. My annual party is every Memorial Day weekend (last Saturday in May.) This way people can still go to one of the big events if the other is too far away. I'm planning on promoting my party a lot for next year and I'm sure you'll see a lot more infomation on it in the spring.

He said he'd keep his seperate so even if his place isn't "chosen" for next year, he can still have his gathering. I'm sure that if enough people will actually come and no where else seems good, then he'd be glad to call it the Nationals.

not tryin to be a "butthead" here, but wouldn't calling it nationals be a wrong thing to do? I mean he could come up with his own name for his event, sounds like you guys will have a great time there, just seems like there's too much "mine will be better" going on here.

I'm an easy going guy, and things in type often get misinterpreted, but just seems like there is a holier (sp) than thou thing goin on

I worded that wrong. What I meant was that if no one could agree on a good place for the Nationals then I'm sure Denny would be glad to make his party into the Nationals- not just steal the name.

Find the closest fairgrounds/campground/racetrack to that and I'd say heck ya! Course, that may be a few hundred miles away...

Alot have been mentioning ILL and obviously its more central than Vegas,SC,NJ,MA or whatever others mention. And if it were to happen in ILL wouldnt be just stupid that there will be 2 large 3rd gen gatherings near each other?

If its ILL and its later in the year (say Sept or later) I might be able to attend if the National is held in the extreme East coast or West coast you can count me out next year..

This is all considering I dont sell my GTA or trade it, its in the classifieds and while I had a few bites nothing is materializing. So Id venture to say Ill have the GTA next year and will be fixing it up.

No matter where the Nationals are next year, I don't think it will be in September.

Denny (LFN AT U) will be having his yearly Memorial Day Gathering at his house in Crete, IL and everyone is welcome to attend. Check out the NW Indiana/Chicago Subrbs board for more info.

that's just bad timing for road trips, that's around finals time for college kids and graduation for HS kids.

June or July is when Nationals will be, I just need to get my lazy azz movin and check some places out.

Yeah I know a bunch of people have finals and stuff, but maybe Denny would be willing to host the Nationals as well. Then at his Memorial Day gathering, we can discuss final plans for the Nationals.

Nothing needs to be decided right now anyway, its not even November yet.

Why not combine it with another Camaro/F-body event? Let someone else do all the work.

We did that at the Circle City Camaro Festival and had a great time. None of the pressure and all of the fun.

Just a thought.

cause third gens get ZERO respect from any other gen. Read this months Hot Rod mag about the ls1 swap... they talk about the car saying "third-gen camaro... take away the "h" in third and thats what people call it" I want to kill everyone at hot rod... first the r*cers... now this crap... yeah, great way to promote modern muscle cars... "ohhh i love ls1 4th gens cause there so fast..blah" Total crap, we deserve our own meet!

whew... had to get that off my chest.

Lets do it in dallas, TX or ennis tx. The best strip is in ennis texas motorplex. 45min south of dallas. It would be a great turnout. Or we could all just go to the enniss slp day.

What about near Detroit? We got the Gratiot strip and Woodward strip to cruise on. Plus the Roseville cops would love having us on THEIR Gratiot strip
j/k

Illinois would be great. Somewhere within 5-6 hour drive of detroit is good. Hopefully my car will make it till them, I forsee engine problems soon. Plus my cars condition is nowhere near the rest of yours. I'd be a little embarrassed.

I wouldn't worry that much about your car's condition, as long as you think it will make the trip. I saw a few cars at this year's Nationals that weren't perfect, and mine was one of them. The point was, we were there.

what about the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY? its right in the middle of the area in question, its easy to find, right off I-65, its an absolute GM shrine, theres usually a dyno on site, and it would probably be cheap if not free. i know a lot of people that have shows and whatnot there. its a great facility, i think it would be great to have it there.

just throwin it out there...

I wouldn't worry that much about your car's condition, as long as you think it will make the trip. I saw a few cars at this year's Nationals that weren't perfect, and mine was one of them. The point was, we were there.

its not a popularity contest, its just a way for a bunch of guys who happen to love the same cars meet and hang out. the point is not to have the nicest or baddest ride there, its just to be there period. i cant think of a single person on these boards who would think any other way. hell id drive my taurus if my bird was down. id just like to be there

I know it's close to me but how 'bout this place? We can rent just a little area. Pluses are covered areas, electricity, BATHROOMS, available vending/catering, on site camping, and it's close to I-77 and I-85.

I know it's a little more south than some would like and a free place is good but it's just my input:

come to think of it with the organizer being an east coast person and the last one being held on the east coast, this one will likely be not far from where the first was. Im not trying to be a bitch but being in the west sux

Trust me be glad your in the west and not in the east lol I think we need to get a east coast and west coast show. East coast can have it wherever and west coast could be in Vegas. That is centrally located for a LOT of people

Why doesn't each region just have their own meet? It's not like it's a national event ( even though the name implies it is ). No one wants to drive for a week to go to a thirdgen gathering. I'm just tired of all the bickering

That sounds like a nice complex, Ed. Besides, I've never been to Charlotte. Do you have any idea regarding the price of rental?

Bowling Green or Bristol would be cool, too...

No kidding... I think most people in this post are missing the entire point... and I DID drive for a week to get to the gathering. If we put it in the central US however, nobody will need to drive a week. 3-4 days would be max for anyone that didn't have problems and didn't live in Alaska...
