Personally, I would like to see a true central (relatively) location chosen. As stated before, it would be as fair as possible to all involved, IMHO. Besides, hopefully that way it would draw more people, and from a wider area.

Regardless, I would probably drive almost anywhere within 1000 miles of home. Beyond that, I just can't justify it for myself.

And no matter what is decided, someone will be unhappy.

That sounds like a nice complex, Ed. Besides, I've never been to Charlotte. Do you have any idea regarding the price of rental?
I haven't had the time to call them yet but I will when I get the chance.

I also agree with the more central location. I know Amorget drove his *** off (man what a trip) and I don't wish that on anyone.

How about Memphis Motorsports park? Good food and blues in Memphis...

I think all of our Alaskian fellow F-body members are all feeling left out... I would be surprised if we have 10 Alaskian members...

I didn't read this whole thread, it's too long. I might make it, depending on where it's at. I may just tow my car there. I've always wanted to go to this event!

The reason we did was the trip was to meet thirdgenners from around the country. You do not get the same experience if it is a "local" type gathering. I got to meet some great people that I will remember for the rest of my life, camarogirl, LastVice, PonyKiller87 and his group, and many others. My guess is that I had a very different experience from almost anything else there, being a whole lot father from my area, and the more people that are there from around the country the better it will be for everyone!

I'm kinda new here been signed up for awhile but just now posting again ..

I think John knows me I'm TTOP350

but anyway my idea would be St Louis... .. they have a very nice 1/4 mile track with the capability of a scca road course inside the roundy round track. plenty of parking.. lots of things to do and see..
And, i work in a shop about 20-30 mins of the track...and we have a chassis dyno that is capable of holding 1500rwhp,but wait there's more..
i could offer some help, as in a place to work on your car if you have some problems.. just my .02

whatcha' guys and gals think??

That sounds interesting, St Louis is at least somewhat central, IMO. I'd make the trip.

St Louis is barely central, it is only 600 miles closer, 2100 vs 2700 from Washington. 1,800 from Lower CA. 981 from New York. I would call that on the edge of being somewhat central....

I guess it is better then the East Coast at least....

1. Don't do Bowling Green, there is already a large F-body show there. More of you should come to it.
2. Somebody should organize a West Coast TG event, there is no reason not two have an East and West every year.
3. Half the fun of carshows is going out and seeing the greatest country on Earth, staying in your own back yard gets old.
4. Have it in or in the suburbs of a large city, make this more of an event than just a small car show.

Well, my house isn't exactly in the city. I'm in a cornfield about 45 minutes south of the city. Trust me, if I was in the city I wouldn't have room for 150 cars. Either way, my party is still on for Memorial Day weekend. (Last Saturday in May.) It will be BIG!!! If you want to come and boo Sammy Sosa that would be great, I'll even supply a corked bat so you can beat him with it!!!

Im up for the TGN's at LFN's casa. Hes got all this land and has a very fine taste for the cars and hes willing to let us crazies hang out there? Heck, Im down. Only thing would be is sleeping arangments. I know im not the only man here with a gf or wife that wont get too happy about sleeping outside. I just hope the weathers fine, the sun it out, my car is running, and all is well in the world. If thats all good, Im set for a little trip out to IL. Might have to make a whole week out of it. And, is there any near by drag strips?

ok, im WAY new here, but im still down to go to national gathering. heres my 2 cents:

my other car club, 3Si, is having their national gathering in Indy. we are getting onto a dragstrip, and a road course at raceway park, and have a photo session, and few laps (paced) on the actual indy 500 track.
so, im driving my stealth 2000+ miles next july to attend this event, and so are at least 2 dozen other california members of the club.

my point? make it big/cool enough, and people will drive ANYWHERE!!

I say go for something in the center of the country, not just becuz I live in spfld, MO, but it seems more fair in a central location of the country. That way people aren't driving 3000 miles to get there

i'm down for LFN AT U's house. Probably because I go out there once every few months for more and more car parts out of his giant selection. Other than that....drag strips near his house LOL....i can think of 3 off the top of my head all within either 30minutes or hour and half at the most. There's U.S. 41 dragway, Great Lakes Dragway and let's not forget Route 66 dragstrip. WOO HOO....they're all 1/4 tracks too.

who's up for a little strip action the night before ?????

The IL idea sounds good to me but regardless if location I plan on my boys and I making the trip. Hopefully I'll have both cars done by spring. My son's is just about done and we're getting ready to start on mine. It'd be great to get to meet people and check out their rides.

No need for insurance, near a big city, enough parking space, free food and drinks, a collection of thirdgen parts(who doesn't need something) and a central US location......

The final decision is Mark's to make though, he is the one who started the Third Gen Nationals, but from what i understand LFNATU is having his meet regardless.......

oh yea.....we're getting down that weekend whether or not everyone shows up calling it the "nationals"

BUT it's ALWAYS a good time, everything is laid back and all the parts....soooo many parts. I think last week he had 93 items on ebay alone, not to mention whatever he sells on the side of that. i'm getting goosebumps.

Guess what? I think I do. I'm just finishing up a '90 Formula that had a 305/5-speed. There's a very good chance that's what gear it has. I've got eleven disc brake rearends now but all the others are 9-bolts. Who says 9-bolts are hard to find???

Yep, my party is on for the last Saturday in May no matter what. I do have a HUGE supply of parts with more cars coming in all the time. By the time the party comes it's going to be a stupid amount of parts. I'm counting on a lot of people needed stuff. Of course, I think the best part is the car giveaway. I have a '91 Camaro B4C (police car) that we are going to raffle off for $50 a ticket. So for $50 you have a change to go home with a very rare former Wisconsin state trooper car!!! Outside of that, the whole party is free. I pay for all the food, pop, and beer. As mentioned earlier, there are plenty of dragstrips around and places to stay. I'll be setting up posts about the party after the holidays so keep an eye out. Next years party is going to be BIG!!!

Holy crap, if you have that many parts, Im gunna go ahead and move christmas to late may!! w00t!! Im sure we can help you pay for food and drinks as we did last year. It will also help cover any type of give-aways like last year. I wounder if mark could get another set of hawk rims right before ronal closes shop on them!

I am pretty new too but it would make sense to have a west coast third gen show and an east coast show. But when scheduling them make one in spring and the other in late summer, so if you want to go to meet the west coast guys you could schedule going to both. If you have one in the middle of the country there will still be people from both coast complaining. So just make the descision and see what happens. Not everyone will be happy. If you don't feel like driving from ME to IL don't but at least make it the best for the most people. I am from NY and I really want to go to it so I would be willing to drive to St. Louis or Ill. You people that don't want to drive more than a half an hour are obviously not all going to be catered to.

phoenix, az here,,,,i vote for vegas for a nats due to my location (i go there several times a year anyway, i would agree with the strip being a bad place to cruise),,,but mark has my vote for wherever he decides to organize since he's doing the work,,,,car and time willing, i'm willing to drive anywhere. the other posts regarding getting together with other 3rd gener's from around the country is right on and is a part of the show i would look forward to. granted, no matter where the nats takes place, it would be almost impossible to make everyone happy....on that note, i would recommend with the others for a more central US location, i will say that two separate east coast and west coast shows is also a good idea as it may get more folks attending overall,,,,but i have been to the TA nats in ohio once and thought that was pretty cool, kind of a trans am heaven. ,,,just my two cents.

90RS305, love that "Racing in a Honda................." quote.

AmorgetRS, loved your comment (bunch of sh*t heads) on the 4th gener's talking down about the 3rd gener's at their own gathering.

First off I would like to say Im sorry to mark for not making it last year, for about 8 months now its been hectic around here.
As for the question of where to have it next year, I think it needs to stay on the east coat. Not to leave you West Coast people out but You need to get togeather and have your own version of Nationals. There are more people out there and Im sure a well corordinated even would have a better turn out the the "east coast" version. This needs to be like a Brother/Sister thing here. (East Coast being brother ) Somebody said we didnt want to go all the way out there but thought they should drive east. Thats not it at all. I dont expect somebody on the West Coast to drive this far, If there was only one even in the Natioin and it was on the west coast then I seriously think that there would be a lot less east coasters there then at last years. To make a long story short here, dont get mad or anything because a bunch of us still want to continue this gathering on the east coast, make your own, and use your population to make it bigger and better then our if you want, we could even get some type of rilvary going.
Ok, that being said I think this coming years should be around the same part of the country it was last time. Northern Virginia, The Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, and Western Maryland are some of my choice. I love that county up in there for some reason. Its not really "country" I should know because of where I live but the same region gets my vote for next year. If you decide on somewhere else, I would like to throw some locations in the ring. When I read the above post about the meet at Indy, one word popped in my head. "Daytona". Now being more practical I got to think Lowe's Motor Speedway would be a good choice, there or around Concord/Moorsville/Lake Norman(beautiful place).
Now since everybody doesnt like circle track as much as me I thought of one more place. Myrtle Beach, or any beach as far as that goes right guys?
Well I'll shut up now. Im sure there are typos and such BUT hows that for my first post in 6 months?

Later guys
Chris

Can't the thirdgen.org forum software do some kind of analysis of all of our states, to find out where our biggest concentration of users is? Or maybe pop up an auto-survey each time a member logs in? I'm up for driving just about anywhere- but the problem for me is time. Taking a week off of work will dent my paycheck big-time... taking two weeks off to drive cross-country would really kill it.

Unless of course I hit the lottery between now and then...!

tom- from my years on the board, and last year, looking at everyone's location, I would have to say NJ is the most populated state with 3rd gens on this board

followed by other east coast cities/states

I vote Las Vegas for the west cost and surrounding states. I think 2 different meetings would suffice, one for the west coast (LV) and then one for the east cost/surrounding areas. I have no idea where a good place for the east coast would be cuz I live out west (SLC Utah). I think that would make the majority happy, and 2 different events would ensure 2 big meetings and not a ton of small ones.

Also, summer would be great........end of june-midjuly would be best IMO. Anytime other than summer would be ****ty. A lot of college people, and the weather would be BEUTIFUL! that time of year. That means t-tops down and a bunch of 2-foot ******s blowin' in the wind Ü.
