Ditto! There was an extremely small showing -- meaning all the money that should have come in by the list of those who were supposed to attend (and RSVP'd) to pay for all the food, t-shirts, trophies etc. are now out of Eric's pocket and most of that is not recoverable. Eric went to a lot of effort to make this show happen, was encouraged to make it happen by the members of the site, and it was really disappointing to see so few show up.
I really feel bad for all he did to have so few in attendance. Eric has a wedding in his near future to pay for so I would think anything he can recover would really be appreciated by he and his fiance.
At least get yourself a T-shirt or two to help with the outlay of expenses. Just my 2 cents.
And Eric -- thanks to you and Twysted and your families for making this happen. I had a great time -- and Steve (and the other long-distance attendees) I hope you made it home okay!

You, CamaroGirl, Eighty-EightLT1, etc. put posts up saying you couldn't make it -- there were 30-40 people who didn't.

I apologized in another thread the day before the nationals and I wish I could have made it but my car wasnt up for the trip. I have it fixed now and it idles great thanks to the new idle control valve. I will do my best to be there next year because I have yet to be to one, first time I had to work that weekend and now the idle problems. I hope everyone had a good time and it all happens again next year. I was also wondering if there were any shirts left over and in what sizes because even though I wasnt there Id still like to show some support.

you know, i replied saying that i couldn't make it so this doesn't technically count for me but i have a couple of things to say:
1. chaulk this one up to experience, you should have had it be a pre-payed registration with no refund (hindsight is 20/20 eh?)
2. expect people to not show up who said they would anyway.
now, with those things said, all the guys griping about those who didn't show up: this is the cost of trying to organize a big gathering.
after racing with the NSCA for 7 years now, i have realized that there is way more money put out than ever made, especially when going to a new track. yes, there was a big turnout for the 2003 tgn's, but look how much Mark A. Sheilds put into advertising for that. he advertised for a year before the show.

no, but i think it's childish to whine and complain about putting on a big show, then not making any money. it happends ALL THE TIME.

If anything is childish here, it's your grasp on what goes into putting a show together then getting stiffed on the bill. I suppose it's easy for you to say things like you are when you are not the one fronting the cost and putting the effort into making the show happen.

Just out of curiousity, how many were you expecting this year and how many actually showed up?
I had the same problem hosting Thirdgen Fest every year. Only about half the people who RSVP'd showed up each of the first three years. I always had enough food and pop left over to feed my family for months. However, you get really tired of hamburgers and hot dogs pretty quick. This year we set up pre-registration cost of $35 per car. That price was good until two weeks before the party. After that date, registration was $45. I would say at least 90% of the people that attended registered early. That way, you have money in advance to buy food and supplies. Nearly all of the people who pre-registered showed up. We knew some people would pay the $45 the day of the party so we bought a little extra food but not much.
Everybody complains there's not enough gatherings. However, when there is one, people seem to look for any exuse possible not to show up. Unfortunately, RSVP lists don't work because anybody can put their name down without making any commitment. If you make them put their money where their mouth is you'll find out who's really serious about coming.
Best of luck next year!!!
