I, too have never seen an IROC at an autocross, I have howerver seen a number of fourth gen cars in both Stock and Street Prepared. Down here in Tidewater, however, my only competition was a 383 Monte Carlo that I dusted pretty convincingly. In turn I got dusted by a pair of turbo VW's, to say nothing of the stock Miata that beat a heavily modified Mustang and a really wicked ZR1 for Fastest Time.

F bodies handle pretty good for as big and heavy as they are. They are also famously nose-heavy. Which means that they don't handle as well as, say, a Corvette, or a BMW M3. Autocross was started by and continues to be dominated by two-seat import sports cars, not high horsepower American iron.

Although, I hear in Texas, that F-Stock is the most influential class, and so there are big fast circuits down there. Someday......

The fast cars in the autocrosses around here are the fox-body mustangs, and the newer Mustangs. There's lots of competition, but those guys always seem to get the best times. Never seen a Camaro, but there's one other guy with a Formula that comes out.

And then there's the Phantom...

F-Bodies are great at autocrossing, especially IROC-Z's. There was a post here a while back of some1 with an IROC that won I think 1st place and said how they were beating all the 4th Gens and pretty much everything else. There was another dude that had the same to say on the Suspension board.

They twist like pretzels! A friend of mine autocrosses his and it needed a lot of reinforcement to prepare it for track use.

That amazes me to hear that there are no IROC's in autocrossing where you guys are. I live in the pacific NW and autocrossed heavily in the early 90's and won several regional meets and a couple of champoinships with our 87 305 5spd. car. I would go up against many mustangs, firebirds, and a whole batch of other IROC's and almost always beat them. But, I competed for several years before I started winning. After I won my first race, I never looked back. Won almost everything I entered, but it took time to get fast. I guess the old saying is true, there is NO substitue for experience.

I'm also surprised that you don't see many thirdgens autocrossing. We've got quite a few guys running 3rd gens at the A&M Sports Car Club autocrosses. At the one official SCCA event I've been to in Mineral Wells, there wasn't exactly a shortage of thirdgens there either.

i havent gotten a chance to auto-x my car, but the previous owner had the car built strictly built for auto-x. Yes it is not an IROC, but it is still a thirdgen. If i remember correctly he placed in I believe 3 national championships (3rd, 4th, and i think 8th..) and about 4 local events (detroit area) in his class (ESP).....I only wish i could drive as good as him

Chevy SB powered Late Models and Chevy BB Modifies dominate from coast to coast thats is the fact. Untill you get the factory backing (R&D) BGN, CTS and WSC do the fords and dodges compete. Yes Yates, Roush and so on, do get backing by the big boys...But If YOU wanted to build and race competively (buying trickle down tech from NASCAR) you'd go the Bow Tie way as me an my brother has for the past 14 yrs (11 championships in 3 different classes). The factories are starting to look small too...a local "one track hero" is back by a Dodge dealership running altered CTS motors, he still runs only in the local series...knows he'd get choked by the Bow Tie!! running against us!!
If there was no NASCAR, ford wouldn't be a name in circle track and that is a fact. Rules are slowly becoming one sided, soon they'll be able to run big blocks or turbo chargers. As for auto X, real men run against each other not a clock!!! that is what we call testing!! As for TRANSAM, let them run 350 CID and everyone run closer to stock body lines can you say Corvette Domination. It's not that Chevy's aren't competive, its taste in racing and rules help the other side too much. Got to go, still looking for the 2 door ford sable like in nascar(I'll let the rear drive, V8 thing, go). Sorry to let off steam in your direction..every season rule changes get me going.
