3rd time at the track

Tonight I was hoping to work on my R/Ts and '60 times, and thats what I got! I didn't beat my previous best ET of 16.24, the best I got tonight was a 16.32. I was running 93 octane last time and was running 87 last time, and my air cleaner is getting kinda dirty, hey different stuff happens on different nights. It was a great night though, clear and about 70 with fairly low humidity for Illinois.

Best R/T of the night (and my best ever): .566
Best '60 (also a new best ever): 2.332

I out R/Ted everone I went up against tonight, I was pretty excited about that. I even was only .16 behind an LS1 car in the '60, but not too long after he pulled on me like I was standing still. But duh what else would you expect, LS1 vs L03 gee I wonder whats gonna happen there. But on average I was running .2 and 1 MPH slower than last time. Oh well.

What do you guys think the 3.42 will do for my off the line times? I had no trouble with traction at all, just did a quicke burnout and never once spun off the line, I mean it dead hooked it was great.

Hmm, you had no traction problems, but ran a 2.3 60'?

It seems like you should be able to do better than that, especially with NO traction problems.

No traction, but, not a lot of power either

I was standing in the pits and I heard you bark the tires for a second.

definately keep playing with your luanches.

the first time i went to the track, i convinced myself i could do no better than a 2.3 with stock suspension and cheapy radial tires.

the second time i went to the track, i played with launch techniques and got it to 1.98 (ok ok, i do have a 9.5" 2400 stall converter..) but you should still be able to get into 2.1 territory.

I found what worked for me is to throw away the first run of the night, and just use it to heat up the tires and clean them off. My first run, i just NAIL it off the line and let them spin for however long they will spin. Then, they are heated up, a bit softer, and clean...all the later runs i can get good traction. The technique that worked bset for me, is to go to about 75% throttle for maybe a quarter of a second, then give it all the rest. If the car is shifting to second early because you aren't at WOT when you are trying to launch, then manually hold it back until you are WOT in 1st.

anyways try different techniques but you should be able to get a 2.1....

Remember now, I'm pushing L03 power here. I AM nailing it off the line as hard as I can and I get no spin at all provided I do a good tire cleaner. I just don't think I've got the power to get off the line any quicker with these gears.

if that's the case (WOT launch results in no wheelspin), then a torque converter (something to let your engine punch up into it's power band faster) or gears will certainly help. I know some of the 4th gen guys think that on their LS1 cars, the 2.73 gears are OK with a good converter (they all seem to like yanks)...but they are running a lot more power than you too.
I guess I'd probably do the gears too, and see where the car goes.

Thats what I'm planning on doing next. I've heard on a TBI car gears are usually worth almost a 1/2 second off your ET, and it sure can't hurt my '60s. I'm quite sure gears with get me into the 15s, and the new motor will get me even more. My goal is put the motor in over spring break and hit a 14.9 or better next summer.
