best time was a 15.3@90.5

i'm assuming i suck and need to work on my strategy a bit, what should i be closer to?

thanks!

That doesnt sound too far off for bone stock. Free up the intake and exhaust system, and get a clean launch, and I'm sure you will break the 14's.

post more info about your times. espeically your 60ft time.

my 91Z does 93mph through the 1/4 traps, and i was pretty dissapointed with that. 90, something may be wrong. whens the last time you did a tuneup? cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil? air filters? how's your tranny doing? is it slipping or having problems shifting?

My worst run was a 15.1 at 92mph with a 2.5 60ft time.

when i practiced my launch, i got it down to a 1.98 60ft time and turned a 14.4 at 93mph.

my 60' was 2.341
reaction time was 2.114, doh.

i have a feeling i let off towards the end, not sure. i launched slowly in fear of tire spinnage.

i got a 91.6 on a later run, but i messed up the launch and ended that run in the 16's.

new air filter, haven't put the new tune-up parts yet, it only has 45K miles, seems to run great, i think i just need some practice.

reaction time is the time it takes you to leave the light. perfect is 0.500, if you are asleep at the light you can go as high as 1.0 - 1.2 seconds for reaction time.

60-ft time is typically between 2.0 seconds and 2.4 seconds for most stock l98 f-bodies.

2.114 60ft is pretty respectable with very little practice, but if that's your reaction time then you were very much snoozing at the lights!
scan a pic of your timeslip and post it, and we can tell you what the numbers mean.

scannerless at the moment, the numbers i re-posted above are correct.

reaction time was definitely 2.114.
60' was 2.341

geezuz, i was hella sleepin' at the light, either that or i was too hesitant to hit the gas and spin.

well, you get to go back to school (the track) and try again.

you should be able to cut a 2.10 60ft pretty easily, this should have you knocking on the door of 14's if not into them.

my dragstrip has a "finish" light, it's mounted low to the ground at the outside of the lane. or you can ask the locals what is the best way to know you've completed your run. that way you don't let off.

i think you might fiind another mph or two in the tuneup.

also practice your launches. for the first run of the night, just nail it and let it spin as far as it wants to. this cleans/heats the tires a bit, and gives you a baseline.

the idea is to launch into as little spin as possible, then go WOT as soon as possible. So, if you spin at WOT launch, then cut back to 3/4 and wait half a second then nail it. practice until you can lay down as much throttle as possible as soon as possible.

I was scared of blowing away the tires my first time to the strip too, and I got three 14.9 @ 92/93mph timeslips with 2.3-2.4 60ft times. the second time I went, I tried different techniquees and got it down to the 14.46 with a 1.98 60ft. i am on cheap radial tires, but I do have a 9.5" 2400 stall converter, so that is helping me.
