Drag Class
What are some race classes for a 8 or 9 second car? I am looking to build a drag car to go along with my Solo I racer and I need to know a target class for my car Thanks!
You need to check out the NHRA, IHRA, and NMCA rule books. A 8 or 9 sec. car is super fast and expensive. If nothing else you can always bracket race. That's probably where our '84 maro is going to end up.

Unless you build it for a specific class in NHRA SuperStock there are only a couple of classes it could run in.
ET brackets it could be in one of 2 classes depending on how your local track groups the classes. The general rule would put it in SuperPro ET which is all cars running 7.50 to 13.99 and are allowed electronics (delay boxes, throttle stops). There are a few tracks that allow Pro ET to run as quick as 7.50 without electronics. Currently transbrakes are not considered electronics but next year many divisions are banning transbrakes in Pro ET. ET brackets uses a .500 full tree. Yellow lights come down .500 seconds apart.
The other classes are SuperComp and SuperGas. Super Comp runs on a 8.90 index and SuperGas runs on a 9.90 index. They are altitude corrected for higher elevation tracks. This type of racing means you must run the index all day long and no quicker. If the weather conditions change, you must adjust the car to keep running the index. There's no dial-in to change on the window since all the cars in the class are trying to run the same index. SC and SG use a .400 pro tree. All 3 yellow lights come on at once and .400 second later the green comes on.
If you want to run in SuperStock, buy a rulebook to see everything you're allowed to do. Many drag cars couldn't even think about running in SuperStock because of all the limitations.

Some tracks, like Epping NH, have a Quick Street class which is a 16 car qualified field that is a heads up deal. There are some very fast cars in these classes with the only stipulation being that it must be "street legal". At Epping there are a couple guys in the 8's on small tires.
Super Stock is also a very cool class to run but is also very expensive; possibly more so than a quick Street type program as they run against an index, use factored hp ratings and if same class cars get paired up in eliminations there is no breakout otherwise it's just a "bracket race" in the way it runs.
Non electronic equipped cars can and have won the electronic classes but it is very hard given the way those things work.
No matter what class you choose, good luck in your endeavor.
