help 60ft. times suck

ok guys heres my dilema, my car really turns on the heat at midrange, so i know ive got more in my car than what im getting at the strip. i think it has a lot to do with my lame 60 ft. the best i have been able to get is a 2.3 something. I know this car should be capable of at least a 2.1 or 2.0 , the best time i have been able to get is a 9.7 @ 72.5 mph (eigth mile) i want to be in the low 9's at least a 9.4 9.5 before october when the strip closes for the year. i have already put on some lower control arms and now have a posi to put in. what kinda tricks can i do to get my 60 ft down, and my et down. i already have most of the free mods. Is an afpr worth anything? if i get in this posi, get some 1.6 roller rockers, and an afpr, can i hit a 9.4-9.5? thanks

a higher stall will bring down those times a lot. Also make sure you have good tires.

higher stall will make your 60" times worse without traction, launch easy eliminate wheel spin,if it's a 9 bolt change the fluid and don't add posi additive, and no bald tires

How are you launching the car? I dropped .2sec in the 60 just by launching it softer to avoid tire spin.

make sure you yank your foot off the brake before you give it any gas. Try rolling into it more instead of going from 1/4 to full. I know my adrenaline gets pumping when I'm at the line. It can be hard to pussyfoot it off the line, but it can really help your times. Just go out in the country and practice launching untill you get a technique that feels the fastest.

Also, droping an endling off the front swaybar can really help weight transfer, and give you .05-.1 in the 60'. Also, dropping a litle pressure in your rear tires can help.
What kind of tires are you running?

Remember, the best mod is always a better driver, and that just takes practice.

Try air bag in passenger side rear spring...@20 psi. this will help keep car level and transfer the weight better instead of squating and putting weight on one tire.

I am also using 275/50/15r BFG drag radials...any DOT drag tire will help getting it to hook up....

60ft...1.9 and dropping

stock longblock (except cam)

Car mods.....accel runners, slight porting on intake parts, zz4 cam, edl. shorty headers, flowmaster cat back, LAC's, airbag, and self burnt chip.

still burning new chips for improvements....

circle track tires have too stiff of sidewalls...drag tires have very thin sidewalls so they wrinkle when the hook.. plus that also reduces the effective diameter of the tire producing a lower overall gear ratio

no corners in drag racing....

Depends on the class hes racing in they might not allow Slicks Remember Slicks are not always the Answer.

I do agree on easing off then slaming in to it.
but also agree with Do lots of runs.
if you are running street tires run them about 30PSI on all 4.
lol started one race with all 4 tires at diff. tire presure it was funny as heck,

Couple of questions here? what tires are you runing.? street tires?
do you clean them off? warm them up? or do a good burn out?

If you are running street tires just do a mild burn out you dont need big smoking ones because they just slowly take down your tire tread. Make sure you are not running with bald tires or there is no defects in them.

What tranny are you running????

1. Install the posi. Can work wonders.
2. Dont immediately hammer it. You have to learn how to launch the car. Anyone can just mat the gas and watch everything just spin.
