Roll cage or roll bar? Mine has a 6 point roll bar. I haven't installed a full cage yet. I don't "need" to until I hit 9's. A 6 point bar is good to 10.0 unless the floor or firewall have been modified.

A roll bar is usually 6 or 8 point. It includes the main hoop plus 2 rear bars and 2 door bars. The extra 2 for an 8 point roll bar come down from the sides of the main hoop towards the transmission tunnel.
Roll bars and cages can have many mount points. It's not considered a cage unless it has a roof bar that goes around the top of the roof and windshield, also known as a halo bar and A-piller bars. A minimum for a cage is 8 points. A 6 point roll bar with the added halo bar and a-piller bars makes 8 points.
NHRA says the minimum for a roll bar is 5 points but everyone adds the passenger side door bar to make it a 6 point cage. Not including convertibles, a roll bar is required from 10.00 to 11.99. If the floor or firewall have been modified for such things as setting the engine back, then a roll bar is only good to 11.00 and a full cage is required to go faster.
IHRA says you need a roll bar at 11.49.

Our '84 Z had T-Tops and a full cage. There's not much Z left since the car was a T-bone. Made it nice for the guy working on it, because he basically cut out everything from the front clip back and started over.
