how much does hot weather affect performance?
heres my dilemma. last year i had a best time of 13.20 at 104.22mph with a 1.87 60ft. over the winter i added a 2500 stall converter, a larger Borla rear ypipe, and eliminated my mufflers. due to the intense rain we had at the beginning of the race season, the earliest i made it to the track was July. i ran a disappointing 13.23 at 103.21, however with a better 1.78 60ft.
i obviously saw in improvement from the converter (better 60fts), but i expected my E/T to drop as well. my mph went down too, even though i installed a higher flowing catback exhaust. could it just be the weather thats bringing me down? whats the usual amount of decreasing performance due to hot and humid temps?

High temperatures, low barometric pressure and high humidity all contribute to produce a high density altitude. An engine makes less hp at high altitude than at low altitude.
Without knowing all the weather condistions of both runs, you can't know if it was the weather creating the slower runs or something you did to the car. Chances are the improvements you made compensated for the poor weather and you're not running as slow as you could have been.

big difference!
Last summer was my first racing experience, then the first time I went on a nice cool winter day I ran .2 to .3 sec better without having done anything IN THE 1/8 MILE! I coudlnt believe it. ANyway I have only gone once this summer and it was really hot. I wanted to get some baseline times before making some changes. Ran OK, but still about .2 over my best in the winter.
Engines just love that cold air I guess.

Hey Larry, how are things back in Houston?
I have a similar story. Last Christmas I ran at HRP and got the 13.1@109. I would shift into fourth about 100yrds before the 1/4. This summer I went back to run again before I left for school, I crossed the 1/4 just before the rev limiter in 3rd gear and could only get a best of 13.5 @ 104, or something to that affect, don't remember the actual times.

Its hotter than crap here. Been over 100 degrees for most of the week. Ive got SLP headers and a Superram Plenum and runners setting in my garage to put on the car put just haven't been able to put them on due to traveling and the heat. Im leaving again tomorrow for a week. When you come back here you should go to the car show they have been having at Sams Wholesale club parking lot at I-10 and hwy 6. its been really good, quite a few thirdgens and a lot of other really nice cars. I think Im going to get these headers on and the super ram on and wait for a nice cool night. I think I should be in the mid to low 13s with this setup. Im creeping up on you there
Ive already got a LPE 219 cam, and Im saving up my money for a set of AFR heads. Im hoping to get those on by next summer. Should be able to give you a run for you money then. Let me know when you get back

Thats awesome man, glad to hear you're getting some good mods. I'll definitely check out Sams Club, sounds like it might make for a fun evening. I won't be back in town till Thanksgiving and then only for 4 days, but I'll definitely let you know when I'm back, sounds like you just might gimme a good run.
